CIA informed the Justice Department that the damage was serious enough to warrant an investigation. Ms. Wilson's work was so sensitive that even now, she is still prohibited from discussing many details of her work in public because of the continuing risk to CIA officials and assets in the field and to the CIA's ongoing work. It is public record now that Plame’s counterproliferation unit had discredited Ahmed Chalabi and his imaginery friends as an intelligence asset. On the other hand, Cheney's office welcomed Chalabi’s predictions of Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction. Libby knew that he would blow the cover of CIA front company, Brewster-Jennings & Associates, which became public known because it appeared in Federal Election Commission records on a form filled out in 1999 by Valerie Plame. The damage is done. The company is shut down. Why, because the White House wanted to make their WMD story appear legitimate. Thus, the White House could mold the CIA toward their policy decision. Its that simple.

The traffic stats are way off. And the amount of links back to DCpages is wrong. They must be looking at web sites linked from the major networks. There are also listings of web sites that I no longer own. But, it is still interesting to look at. We have an internal stat program that measures where our traffic comes from.

Here is the response I got from the Federal Trade Comission Luke A Wilbur 9813 Belhaven Rd. Bethesda, MD 20817 Re: FTC Ref. No. 109##### Dear Luke Wilbur: Thank you for contacting the Federal Trade Commission concerning identity theft. We have enclosed a brochure that addresses many of the concerns raised by identity theft and explains in more detail how to respond to specific types of identity theft. Additional information is also available at www.consumer.gov/idtheft, the federal government's central website on identity theft. If you haven't already done so, there are three immediate steps you should take: 1) Contact the fraud departments of each of the three major credit bureaus (telephone numbers are in the enclosed brochure) to place a fraud alert on your credit report. Fraud alerts can help prevent additional accounts from being opened by the identity thief. The credit bureaus will send you copies of your credit reports. You are entitled to receive the report free of charge if your report is inaccurate because of fraud. You should review the credit reports carefully to make sure no additional fraudulent accounts have been opened in your name or unauthorized changes made to your existing accounts. 2) Contact the fraud departments of the banks or companies for any accounts that have been fraudulently accessed or opened. Find out what forms or other documents you will need to send them to dispute the debts. Ask to use the ID Theft Affidavit (in the enclosed brochure) to save time. 3) File a report with your local police, and get a copy of the report in case the bank, credit card company, or others involved need proof of the crime. In addition, you have certain rights under federal credit laws that can help you undo some of the damage done by identity thieves. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act: You have the right to dispute errors in your credit report. Once you notify them, the credit bureau and the company that furnished the inaccurate information to the credit bureau must investigate the disputed information. The credit bureau is required to remove incorrect information from your report. You have the right to get a copy of the application or other business transaction records relating to your identity theft free of charge from the company. These records may help you prove that you are a victim. For example, you may be able to show that the signature on an application is not yours. You must make your request in writing. Companies must provide these records within 30 days of receipt of your request. You also may give permission to any law enforcement agency to get these records. Under the Truth-In-Lending Act and the Fair Credit Billing Act: If you report to the credit card issuer that your credit card is lost or stolen, you cannot be held responsible for more than $50 of unauthorized charges. You have the right to dispute errors on your credit card bill. If you send a written notice to the credit card issuer within 60 days, it must investigate and either correct the error or explain why the bill is believed to be correct within two billing cycles or 90 days, whichever is less. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act: You have the right to dispute errors on your electronic fund transfer account statements. If you send a written notice to the issuing financial institution within 60 days, it must investigate and either correct the error or explain why the account statement is believed to be correct within thirteen business days. In some cases, if the institution needs more time, it may take up to 45 days to complete the investigation. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: If a debt collector contacts you about a debt that you believe you do not owe, you have the right to file a dispute with the debt collector. If you do so in writing within thirty days of the collector's initial contact with you, the collector is required to stop all collection efforts until the debt is verified and the verification is sent to you. Finally, a number of states have passed identity theft laws. You may want to check with your state Attorney General's office to find out if you have any additional protections or remedies. The FTC has entered your identity theft complaint into our data clearinghouse. Although we have no criminal authority to investigate identity theft, we share data from this clearinghouse with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, and private entities to assist them in their investigation of identity theft. We also can use your information to investigate companies for violations of laws which we enforce. To learn more about the FTC's Privacy Policy, visit www.ftc.gov. If you don't have access to the Internet, you can call the FTC toll-free 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338); TDD: 202-326-2502; or write: Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580. Thank you for providing us with your identity theft complaint. Our identity theft tracking and case referral program wouldn't be successful without your information. Please call us toll-free at 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338) at any time to update your complaint with new information. Sincerely, Identity Theft Clearinghouse -

Two wrongs do not make it right. This article actually makes my point stronger. Any standing president should not be able to pardon individuals without the consent of Congress. I truly think it is an abuse of power.
-
If Libby told the truth about his conversations with the other government officials, Judith Miller, Tim Russert and the media relating to Valerie Wilson he would not have been indicted. I believe that he thought what he was doing was best for our country. Joseph Wilson was a threat to the administration's plan to build a substantial American force presence in the Gulf. Scooter Libby lied to the grand jury. His statements contradicted the established facts. The jury found him guilty. Now the President has set him free. Thus undermining the judicial values our country promotes to the rest of the world. It is also plausible that commutation is the best legal strategy for the White House. Scooter Libby retains his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and can remain silent. Had Libby been pardoned and been completely cleared of any wrongdoing, he would have a more difficult time refusing to answer questions.
-
We are here not dealing with the Crown's prerogative of mercy continued through the pardoning power in this country as an exercise of grace. Currently, the prerogative of mercy reposed shown by President Bush cannot be fettered by any legislative restrictions. But, commutation does not wash out the moral stain and taxpayer dollars Libby has put this country through. The real issue is that if Libby is pardoned, then he will be able to still practice law. Every lawyer admitted to the bar is committed to uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. Scooter Libby's conviction warrents him unfit to represent the bar. Scooter Libby should not receive a full pardon for this reason alone. It must be tough, but I hope President Bush puts our country's justice system before his friend in his future decisions.
-
My question is why? A jury found him guilty. Is Scooter Libby above the law? Why should President's have this much power. It undermines the credibility of our justice system. What bothers me more is many President's (including Clinton) wait till their last days in office and then go on a pardoning spree.
-
I truly believe that in reality there is not that much difference between Republican and Democrat politicians. Once one side gets power it gets corrupt. Then the other side takes over for awhile and gets corrupt. I think this country really needs a three party system.
-
Joe, I think I will be able to make it to training camp. Happy Fourth of July.

It must be a little eerie in the Oval Office.

The President of the United States.
-
The White House Press Briefing by Tony Snow displayed insight on President Bush's commutation (reduction of a sentence) of Scooter Libby. The President accepted the jury's verdict, but considered conviction jail sentence to be excessive and inappropriate. A future pardon is also not out of the question.

Astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have discovered a ghostly ring of dark matter that formed long ago during a titanic collision between two massive galaxy clusters. The ring's discovery is among the strongest evidence yet that dark matter exists. Astronomers have long suspected the existence of the invisible substance as the source of additional gravity that holds together galaxy clusters. Such clusters would fly apart if they relied only on the gravity from their visible stars. Although astronomers don't know what dark matter is made of, they hypothesize that it is a type of elementary particle that pervades the universe. "This is the first time we have detected dark matter as having a unique structure that is different from both the gas and galaxies in the cluster," said astronomer M. James Jee of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., a member of the team that spotted the dark-matter ring. The researchers spotted the ring unexpectedly while they were mapping the distribution of dark matter within the galaxy cluster Cl 0024+17 (ZwCl 0024+1652), located 5 billion light-years from Earth. The ring measures 2.6 million light-years across. Although astronomers cannot see dark matter, they can infer its existence in galaxy clusters by observing how its gravity bends the light of more distant background galaxies. "Although the invisible matter has been found before in other galaxy clusters, it has never been detected to be so largely separated from the hot gas and the galaxies that make up galaxy clusters," Jee said. "By seeing a dark-matter structure that is not traced by galaxies and hot gas, we can study how it behaves differently from normal matter." During the team's dark-matter analysis, they noticed a ripple in the mysterious substance, somewhat like the ripples created in a pond from a stone plopping into the water. "I was annoyed when I saw the ring because I thought it was an artifact, which would have implied a flaw in our data reduction," Jee explained. "I couldn't believe my result. But the more I tried to remove the ring, the more it showed up. It took more than a year to convince myself that the ring was real. I've looked at a number of clusters and I haven't seen anything like this." Curious about why the ring was in the cluster and how it had formed, Jee found previous research that suggested the cluster had collided with another cluster 1 to 2 billion years ago. The research, published in 2002 by Oliver Czoske of the Argeleander-Institut fur Astronomie at the Universitat Bonn, was based on spectroscopic observations of the cluster's three-dimensional structure. The study revealed two distinct groupings of galaxies clusters, indicating a collision between both clusters. Astronomers have a head-on view of the collision because it occurred fortuitously along Earth's line of sight. From this perspective, the dark-matter structure looks like a ring. Computer simulations of galaxy cluster collisions, created by the team, show that when two clusters smash together, the dark matter falls to the center of the combined cluster and sloshes back out. As the dark matter moves outward, it begins to slow down under the pull of gravity and pile up, like cars bunched up on a freeway. "By studying this collision, we are seeing how dark matter responds to gravity," said team member Holland Ford of Johns Hopkins University. "Nature is doing an experiment for us that we can't do in a lab, and it agrees with our theoretical models." Dark matter makes up most of the universe's material. Ordinary matter, which makes up stars and planets, comprises only a few percent of the universe's matter. Tracing dark matter is not an easy task, because it does not shine or reflect light. Astronomers can only detect its influence by how its gravity affects light. To find it, astronomers study how faint light from more distant galaxies is distorted and smeared into arcs and streaks by the gravity of the dark matter in a foreground galaxy cluster, a powerful trick called gravitational lensing. By mapping the distorted light, astronomers can deduce the cluster's mass and trace how dark matter is distributed in the cluster. "The collision between the two galaxy clusters created a ripple of dark matter that left distinct footprints in the shapes of the background galaxies," Jee explained. "It's like looking at the pebbles on the bottom of a pond with ripples on the surface. The pebbles' shapes appear to change as the ripples pass over them. So, too, the background galaxies behind the ring show coherent changes in their shapes due to the presence of the dense ring." Jee and his colleagues used Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys to detect the faint, distorted, faraway galaxies behind the cluster that cannot be resolved with ground-based telescopes. "Hubble's exquisite images and unparalleled sensitivity to faint galaxies make it the only tool for this measurement," said team member Richard White of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. Previous observations of the Bullet Cluster with Hubble and the Chandra X-ray Observatory presented a sideways view of a similar encounter between two galaxy clusters. In that collision, the dark matter was pulled apart from the hot cluster gas, but the dark matter still followed the distribution of cluster galaxies. Cl 0024+17 is the first cluster to show a dark matter distribution that differs from the distribution of both the galaxies and the hot gas. The team's paper will appear in the June 1 issue of the Astrophysical Journal. Tony looked up and everything went black. I thought something was wrong with my service. I thought the man sitting at the bar and the one that went to the bathroom were going to kill Tony, Anthony Junior, and Carmela. Meadow takes forever to park her car and finally gets to the door. I thought she was going to see her family whacked. But..... Nothing. At least Leotardo had a good finish.
