  2. If Carlos Rogers steps it up the Redskins will win this game.
  3. This was sent to me from my friend Steve.
  4. Karl, What do you think the title should be titled? Karl, In my opinion it does. Mayor Fenty has the right to endorse whoever and whatever he wants. But, when a District public servant gets large public media attention and makes political endorsements, residents of the District of Columbia and anyone on this planet should have the right to question their endorsements. In this case, Mayor Fenty has given his political endorsement of a Democratic candidate that is currently making important foreign policy decisions. I am not questioning the political leadership of Obama or anyone in this topic. But, Human is has made a statement that the Democratic Party leaders are causing a problem with the our country's relations with Turkey. 1. We are talking about the Turkish army chief says U.S. ties at risk 2. The American people need to see this issue 3. U.S. Congress approved a resolution branding the 1915 killing of Armenians 4. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to bring the resolution to the floor. 5. Turkey has stated ties between the United States and their government will not be the same. The Turkish government is shelling northern Iraq and possible halting us military and support supply lines coming from their country. I thank you for expressing your framework for discussion. It is now posted for people to decide to use this method. But, people are able to other methods of communication that is comfortable with them. My only request is that we stay on the topic that has been posted.
  5. Karl, I think Human was referring to members of the Democratic Party. This includes elected officials and the citizens that voted the current members of Congress into office. You are right that citizens of the District of Columbia should not be found guilty of current government mishaps. But, we have the right to freely speak about about what we think should have been done. Our elected leaders do endorsements. Mayor Fenty has given his endorsement of Barack Obama as President through public channels. The one vote that the District had was for Presidents. A majority of District citizens did not vote for George W. Bush. I know Eleanor Holmes Norton is Democrat. She has strong ties with Independant Senator Lieberman. I am willing to bet that the District would have an independant candidate as well. Just my opinion. I think the Republicans should give District residents the right of representation. This is not England. This is not Rome. If the Federal Government cannot fix a problem it falls to the United States to fix it. After the war The United States needs to have a Constitutional Convention and close some of the back doors of Tyranny. But, not now. Americans need to realize that we are in this war for the long haul. Hillary Clinton will most likely win the democratic nomination. The Senator has stated that she is not in favor an immediate withdraw. But, it is the actions of Nancy Pelosi that have Republicans worrying. I do not know if our local leaders have made opinions on this issue. Do you?
  6. Researchers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) will host a public forum this week to discuss the pros and cons of "iron fertilization" of the oceans as a means to mediate global warming. The forum, entitled "Ocean Fertilization: Ironing Out Uncertainties in Climate Engineering," is a public follow-up to an interdisciplinary science workshop conducted at WHOI in September. The free event will be held at 2:30 p.m. on October 19 in the Redfield Auditorium on Water Street in the Village of Woods Hole. The discussion of iron fertilization comes in response to several recent scientific and commercial proposals to spread dissolved iron into the sea. This "seeding" of the ocean is intended to promote the growth of carbon dioxide-consuming plants (phytoplankton) that could help offset rising concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Many ocean scientists are skeptical about whether the process would remove carbon dioxide for the long term or just for a fleeting time. The ecological impact of long-term, large-scale fertilization is also a concern. "Could adding iron to ocean waters stimulate algal productivity sufficiently to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide and geo-engineer our climate? We still don't know," said Ken Buesseler, a WHOI marine chemist and organizer of both the scientific and public discussions. "We did not set out to reach a consensus for or against ocean iron fertilization as a climate mitigation strategy, nor did we endorse any particular commercial plan to try it. Our goal is to bring together the many stakeholders and come to some agreement on the issues of concern and the holes in our knowledge." During the September workshop at WHOI, 80 researchers, environmental advocates, regulators, and business leaders discussed previous scientific iron fertilization experiments, the variability in environmental responses to those experiments, and the intended and unintended consequences that may result when such projects are conducted on a larger scale. Participants also considered the legal and economic framework for regulating the use of international waters and for verifying that carbon is actually removed from the atmosphere for more than a passing moment. Participants generally agreed that any evaluation of iron dumping must include detailed estimates of the impacts of adding iron, beyond simple measurements of algal growth. That is, they must consider the likely production of other greenhouse gases, the changes to ecosystems, and the efficiency and permanency of carbon sequestration. Workshop attendees also agreed that more extensive scientific assessments are needed than what is currently planned in some commercial proposals. "While there is still no agreement on the efficiency of CO2 reduction or its environmental impacts, some scientists are willing to consider further experiments to address these remaining uncertainties, given that future policies and carbon-offset markets may emerge with or without a sound scientific basis," Buesseler said. The public forum next week will offer background on the issue, while providing insight into the opinions and prevailing views expressed at the September workshop. A short, formal talk by Buesseler will be followed by a panel discussion and a public question-and-answer session. The event is sponsored by the WHOI Elisabeth and Henry Morss Jr. Colloquia Fund, established to support public colloquia on issues of global importance to the human race.

  10. Thanks Doug and Freedom. Unfortunetely, I fell asleep. But I do know that in 2001, a study was published in Military Medicine that found DU in the urine of Gulf War veterans .
  11. I think the internet allows those that are affected to voice out their feelings about certain issues. The only we can grow as a culture is to better communicate with one another.

  15. Iraqi citizens are helping Coalition forces hunt down al Qaeda terrorists in a vast rural area south of Baghdad, a military commander said today. “As the summer went along, we started building the confidence of the people,” Army Lt. Col. Ken Adgie told online journalists and “bloggers” from Patrol Base Murray, which is situated beside the Tigris River in the mostly agricultural region of Arab Jabour. With its desolate location, rugged terrain, thick palm groves and almost-exclusively Sunni population, the region is a perfect breeding ground for terrorism, Adgie said. “There is no Iraqi army here. There is no Iraqi police here. And there’s no governmental structure here,” he said. “What you had was a petri dish for al Qaeda to grow.” Earlier this month, Adgie and the soldiers he commands in 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, of Multi-National Division Center launched Operation Marne Torch II. The ongoing mission aims to stop the flow of weapons, including improvised explosive devices that local citizens have been manufacturing with al Qaeda funding. “The al Qaeda that’s here is not guys … from Syria or Somalia. They are local people who grew up here,” Adgie said. “They were bad, bad teenagers who stole cars, and (with) the lure of fast money from al Qaeda … they joined al Qaeda, and they carry out al Qaeda’s bidding.” These home-grown terrorists employed “ultra-violence” against their fellow villagers to “strike fear in their hearts,” the colonel explained. Coalition forces from the final phase of the U.S. troop surge streamed into the region earlier this summer. “In early August, we started seeing the first of the concerned local citizens come forward,” Adgie said. “And they started providing us with just a lot of information on who the bad guys were.” The “concerned citizen” movement was greatly bolstered last month, the colonel explained, when a retired brigadier general from Saddam Hussein’s former army encouraged more local people to assist the coalition effort. “(He) decided, ‘Enough is enough. I’ll be the leader,’” Adgie said. “He stepped up, stepped out into the light of day and helped us recruit this concerned citizen organization.” That organization has grown from 87 to 538 people in just seven weeks, the colonel explained, and its members provide crucial information. “Al Qaeda operates under a veil of secrecy. No one knows who al Qaeda is,” Adgie said. “Well that’s no longer possible when the guy you went to high school with is a concerned citizen, and he can look you in the eye and say: ‘You’re al Qaeda.’” Information provided by Iraqi citizens is always corroborated by a second source, the colonel explained, such as video from unmanned aerial vehicles. But without that initial human intelligence, he said, the mission would be far more difficult. “It allows us to take that … needle in a haystack and make it into a much smaller haystack,” Adgie said. A select, highly vetted group of concerned citizens actually lives on post with Coalition forces, wears military uniforms and accompanies troops as they raid suspected al Qaeda safe houses, the colonel explained. “If there’s 10 guys in a house and one’s bad, (the concerned citizens) can say: ‘That’s the guy you want.’” Adgie said. Since the beginning of Operation Marne Torch II, coalition forces have killed nine enemy fighters, captured 71 detainees, located 14 IEDs, and uncovered 12 weapons caches according to Multi-National Division Center officials. “Al Qaeda is losing right now,” Adgie said. “And that’s a good thing for Iraqi citizens.” (Story by David Mays Special to American Forces Press Service)
  16. Cancer Warning 1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
  17. Here is. the context of their statements Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama said they might have to keep some combat troops there in a counterterrorism role for more than four years, and John Edwards said he'd likely have thousands of non-combat troops there in a protective role.

  20. I would imagine that a computer will never be able to understand pure analog. There is also a threshold range of analog that we can understand. What we have to do is build is smarter computers to understand distinct differences in frequency.

  23. What you are talking about is yet another expansion of the equivalency principle, which is relativistic physics. You can imagine this theory from any number of points of view. For example, you could describe everything in terms of energy or spacetime or whatever. Everything in our known universe is destined to a future of uniformity. Physics even accepts the idea that entropy defines the direction of time. All objects with mass have an associated energy: Sensible energy - the portion of the internal energy of a system associated with kinetic energies (molecular translation, rotation, and vibration; electron translation and spin; and nuclear spin) of the molecules. Latent energy - the internal energy associated with the phase of a system. Chemical energy - the internal energy associated with the different kinds of aggregration of atoms in matter. Nuclear energy - the tremendous amount of energy associated with the strong bonds within the nucleus of the atom itself. Energy interactions those types of energies not stored in the system (e.g. heat transfer, mass transfer, and work), but which are recognized at the system boundary as they cross it, which represent gains or losses by a system during a process. Thermal energy t-he sum of sensible and latent forms of internal energy Entropy describes the degradation of energy to perform work. All forms of energy are degraded incessantly and irreversibly to an inferior, lower-quality, more-randomized form of energy: Heat. Chain of life on earth: energy brings evolution. Life is an energy intensive process. It takes energy to operate muscles, extract wastes, make new cells, heal wounds, even to think. It's in an organism's cells where all this energy is spent. In some cells, as much as half of a cell's energy output is used to transfer molecules across the cell membrane, a process called "active transport." The brain itself weighs only about 3 pounds, yet its 10 billion brain cells use about 20% of the body's energy supply. Descartes used extension in space as the criterion to distinguish between mental entities (unextended) and physical ones (extended). Existential awareness can be due to informational "crosswiring" in the somatosensory cortex that can produce mental entities simular to phantom limb sensations. Awareness is an informational process to impose order on the environment with a desire to transcend its physical limitations and to attain a kind of freedom by entering a space of infinite depth. Generative energy is produced from relationships between different components of our environment. Awareness is a type of generative energy that integrates relationships between external stimuli and our memory. Plants, trees, animals and human beings all operate under the generative process to survive and create. Language is a generative process that originates in ones awareness of an environmental event or scene. This process is then referenced and instructed to others. It has been suggested that the a gene such as the FOXP2 protein sequence may have undergone a mutation allowing humans to generate language.
  24. The U.S. Senate today adopted a measure authored by U.S. Senators Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) that calls on the U.S. State Department to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. The measure was adopted as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill by a vote of 76 to 22. Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) called the amendment "Dick Cheney's fondest pipe dream," as "it could be read as a backdoor method of gaining Congressional validation for military action, without one hearing and without serious debate." "Iran is a threat...but it needs to be dealt with strategically and diplomatically," said Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE). Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) called the amendment's language "dangerous" and called it an "effort to put us on the record for the use of military force in Iran." The measure comes on the heels of mounting evidence that through proxy organizations, Iran is waging a proxy war against the United States in Iraq, providing weapons, training, funding, and direction to radical Shi'a militias who are responsible in turn for the murder of hundreds of American soldiers. Also today, in response to concern that the measure was a possible declaration of war, the amendment was modified to clarify its intent. "Our military leaders, diplomats, and intelligence reports say that there is clear evidence Iran is exerting negative influence in Iraq," said Kyl. "I believe that the Senate's adoption of this measure sends a message to Iran that the U.S. will not tolerate any interference to progress in Iraq. It is now incumbent upon the State Department to add the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to the list of terrorist organizations." "It is vital to the national security interests of the United States that the Iranian government not be allowed to prevail in its proxy war against us in Iraq," said Lieberman. "This amendment makes it clear - both to our enemies and our friends - that the United States will not retreat in the face of Iranian terrorism." In Congressional testimony before the House and Senate earlier this month, General David Petraeus, the commander of Multi-National Forces-Iraq, stated that, "it is increasingly apparent to both collation and Iraqi leaders that Iran, through the use of Iranian Republican Guard Corps Qods Force, seeks to turn the Shi'a militia extremists into a Hezbollah-like force to serve its interests and fight a proxy war against the Iraqi state and coalition forces in Iraq." United States Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker stated in the same hearing: "Iran plays a harmful role in Iraq. While claiming to support Iraq in its transition, Iran has actively undermined it by providing lethal capabilities to the enemies of the Iraqi state." U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), John Ensign (R-Nev.), Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), and John Thune (R-N.D.) are also co-sponsors of the amendment. "The Webb amendment was one of the more ill-advised approaches to fighting the War on Terror. It was a historic constitutional infringement on the power of the Commander in Chief allowing Congress to micromanage troop rotations and deployments," said Graham. “The evidence of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard carrying out terrorist attacks at the cost of American lives is indisputable,” said Ensign. “Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is a well-funded and highly trained terrorist organization. Our troops are attempting to carry out a mission in Iraq, and their efforts are being hindered by Iran.”
  25. Try to follow these rules when responding to merchant or bank emails. Usually, a phishing email will have a fake story that’s designed to lure you into clicking a link or button in the email or calling a phone number. The sender is trying to steal your identity by tricking you into revealing your password or other personal information. You may be tempted, but don’t trust an email address. It’s pretty easy to alter and is not an indication of whether the email is real or not. No email should ever ask you for the following personal information: Your password Driver's license number Social Security number Credit and debit card numbers Pin numbers or bank account numbers Never install attached software or even open an attached file. It’s not safe – it could be spyware or a virus. Many phishing emails have links that look valid, but send you to fraudulent sites instead.
