What is the downside to the political support, the monetary support and the actual votes that many endorsements bring? Endorsements give legitimacy to serious candidates. I do not like for candidates to be beholden to certain groups, but on the other hand, if there is a like-minded philosophy between a candidate and an endorsing entity, then it only makes sense for that entity to work with the candidate to get elected. In a field like the Ward 3 race, the endorsement of the NW Current or the Ward 3 Democrats doesn't make sense....most of the candidates have "electable" qualities and all are democrats. However, where certain associations and unions are concerned, there is a natural symbiosis which the process must work through. B. Frank

Luke, I tend to agree with your sentiment. The one thing holding DC back is the fact that many percieve the city's public education system as being 'not viable'. As a result, families with young kids are often seen flocking to the near suburbs as their children near school age. Retaining and attracting new families such as these should be a lynchpin to Mayor William 100,000 new residents initiative. The library system is simply a shambles, from the MLK proposals downtown to the branches throught they city. There is no reason why DCPL is in bad shape other than simple mismanagement over the course of 40 years. There are a lot of issues, and the candidates are only now beginning to distinguesh themselves. It should be an interesting summer. B. Frank

The key there is "might". They ARE lies, but since you keep repeating it everywhere and often, in your mind they are truths. The facts behind your allegations simply do not add up, whether they are about your past, about your present, or about your opponents. As long as you continue to post the falsehoods around the internet, you can expect to be called on it, backed up of course, with the truth (links to third party websites which verify facts, etc.) B. At the mayoral forum last night, Candidate Fenty pledged no new taxes for the residents or business in the District, citing cuts in bloated government and better management. The other candidates balked saying that they city's situation is not teneable without the flexibility to add fees/raise taxes if needed. Is Fenty playing more of the populous game, or is this a real pledge to the business community and tax-paying residents?

I checked with a couple of the organizations you cited, and suffice it to say (with no surprise) most of what you posted is simply false. Indeed, the organizations indicated that they will be taking no action, and in the cases of a "score card", they are waiting to see who is actually on the ballot, much less announced. Mr. Rees has portrayed his campaign as a maverick form to distinguish himself from traditional politics. The problem is that Mr. Rees completly ignores the lies, impersonations and other odd behavior which dot his campaign strategy. It is this erratic behavior which draws the ire of the internet consuming public. He thinks the ire (and subsequent posts by the likes of people like me) is because he thinks "his rivals" feel threatened by his political presence. No Mr. Rees, it is because you lie, distort and cannot be honest about anything you say or with anyone you associate. Edward Shanbacker, Executive Vice President, Medical Society of the District of Columbia, writes on Nov. 17, "The Medical Society is a non-profit assn. (sic) and does not endorse candidates for public office. " He goes on to say that they have a PAC, but it will not begin the endorsement process until closer to the election. This is but one of too many concrete examples where there are inconsistencies or outright lies. The digital trails of statements made by Rees (and his aliases/surrogates) are too many and too blatent. Much of it has occurred in this forum, on Yahoo, DCist, etc. for anyone to research and digest.
