  4. I too hope the new owner of the Washington Nationals decides to keep Alfonso Soriono. He could be the Cal Ripken of the franchise. That is if Alfonso has the heart for it.

    VOTE!!

You should change that title Vote. It should be Vote for Flyleaf. You should also put a link to some Flyleaf music that people can listen to. Just a thought.
  7. Ok Here is the message I recieved from Google about the problem.
  8. Leaked: AT&T NSA documents The federal court in San Francisco barred the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), its representatives and its technical experts from discussing or disseminating these documents, but did not include whistleblower Mark Klein or the press in the gag order. EFF's suit accuses AT&T of illegally handing over its customers' telephone and Internet records and communications to the National Security Agency (NSA). The evidence at issue was filed as support for EFF's motion for a preliminary injunction against AT&T, seeking to stop the company's ongoing violations of the law and the privacy of its customers. Here is Mark Klein's statement in its entirety.
  9. Here is an excerpt of U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) explains his decision to support the war in Iraq at The New School commencement address in New York City. I think no one can argue this man is a patriot.

  11. Just to set the record straight, California Democrat Nancy Pelosi acknowledged she was briefed about the warrantless surveillance back in 2001. Below is a letter that Pelosi wrote in October 2001 when she was Ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was declassified at her request in January 2006, along with the response from Lieutenant General Michael Hayden, then the NSA Director. Just a quick note on what is a redacted statement. In the documents listed, identifying information has been deleted (redacted) to the extent necessary to protect the personal privacy of individuals discussed in the letter. Public access to this personal information contained in the electronic copies of these documents posted on this web site is being denied pursuant to Exemption 6 of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. §552 ((6), and the Department's implementing regulations at 34 CFR 5.71(a). This FOIA exemption requires agencies to withhold information the disclosure of which would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. After reading the above I then went to Congresswoman Pelosi's web site and read her view on 'Protecting Our Country and Our Constitution' section. If the above communication are all accurate and her belief on our constitution is correct, then I can only assume that Pelosi supports NSA's wiretapping. Otherwise, she would have made a huge issue out of it way before the Times story broke. It is hard to determine how much Rep. Pelosi knew, but I would surmise much more than we do now. Maybe this is why she does not want to impeach the President. If the Democrats retake the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi will almost certainly become the first female Speaker.
  12. I went to Friday nights game and my buddy thought the Nationals would lose the rest of their games. He was just mad that he lost a $100 bet. Looks like the Orioles have no offense. The birds are tied for last place. Who would have thought. Did you know? Soriano leads the Major Leagues in leadoff home runs with nine. Oh I also saw that Battle of the Beltway ad on the paper. Another friend of mine told me about it. It looks like the Post just wanted to show what side they are on. I bet the editor did not see that page. It was just a marketing stunt. Check out our Battle of the Beltway photo gallery.
  13. E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of 85 percent ethanol and just 15 percent gasoline. E85 is an alternative fuel as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy. Besides its superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline; it is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation's economy and energy independence. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 also recognizes E85 as an alternative fuel. In order to operate on E85, vehicles need to be compatible with alcohol use. The conversion cost to make FFVs compatible with E85 typically includes upgrades to the fuel system components, the addition of a fuel sensor, and reprogramming the EPOM (computer chip) in the ECM/PCM (electronic control module/power train control module). Libya

Chavez respects Gadhafi. I think the United States has sent a message through Gadhafi that there are economic benifits to following peaceful route with the United States. I think Libya should be applauded for for denouncing it past its terrorist activities in the 1980s by compensating the families of victims of the UTA and La Belle disco bombings. In the end, peaceful diplomacy wins over terror every time.

  16. Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that he has selected a group led by real estate developer Theodore N. Lerner as the new owner of the Washington Nationals and will forward his selection to Major League Baseball's owners for their vote. Major League Baseball is expected to vote on Commissioner Selig's recommendation at its next owners' meeting, which will take place in New York on May 17th and 18th. The purchase price for the franchise was set at $450 million. "We had eight very capable and qualified groups bidding for the Nationals," said Commissioner Selig, "and choosing one was extremely difficult. I thank those that were not chosen for their interest and for the great amount of time, energy and patience they devoted to the process. "I am very excited about the Lerner family and what they will bring to the Washington Nationals, the community and Major League Baseball. From the very beginning of the process they have been committed to the goals of stable yet innovative ownership, diversity within the ownership group, and solid baseball management. Throughout the long application period, they have not varied from those goals and have scrupulously followed our procedures. "In the end, I determined that family ownership and major investment by a central person has served baseball well in the past and will continue to serve the game well in the future. Accountability is critical in a situation where teams must compete on the field but be partners off the field and in the community. I am confident the Lerners will be accountable to their fans and to baseball. "Family ownership has long been a model for baseball. The O'Malleys with the Dodgers, the Fetzers with the Tigers and the Galbraiths with the Pirates are several historical examples that had great success in the game. And, among the successful family-operated teams today are the Wilpons with the Mets, the Pohlads in Minnesota, and the Moores family in San Diego. I believe the Lerner family will be another excellent example and I look forward to working with them." As part of the process, Major League Baseball has emphasized the need for strong local and diverse ownership, a requirement that was met by the Lerner Group. Ted, his son Mark, were born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, while his sons-in-law, Edward L. Cohen and Robert K. Tanenbaum, are long-time residents. Nearly all of the Lerner Family business as well as their personal and philanthropic interests are local. For more than 50 years, they have developed, operated and managed real estate projects that Washingtonians use - from shopping centers to offices to homes. This is not Ted Lerner's first foray into baseball. In the mid-1970s, several years after the Senators departed Washington, D.C. for Texas, he contacted then-Commissioner Bowie Kuhn about returning a team to the D.C. area. He also had tried to purchase the Baltimore Orioles. Former Atlanta Braves President Stan Kasten is part of the Nationals' ownership as are a diverse group of local business leaders that includes: • Paxton K. Baker, Vice President and General Manager of BET Digital Networks; • Sports broadcaster James T. Brown; • Faye F. Fields, founder of Integrated Resource Technologies, Inc.; • Alphonso Maldon, Jr., Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Management Officer for Government Banking Services in the Corporate Banking Department at the PNC Financial Services Group; • B. Doyle Mitchell, Jr., President and CEO of Industrial Bank, NA; • George Munoz, Principal of Munoz Investment Banking Group, LLC; • Raul R. Romano, President and CEO of Alliance Consulting Group, LLC; • Rodney E. Slater, Partner, Patton Boggs LLP, and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation; and • Jarvis C. Stewart, Chairman and Managing Partner of Stewart Partners LLC. The Lerners cannot take full control of the Nationals until their acquisition is approved by the Major League clubs and the sales process closes. Until that time, the Lerner group may consult with current club President Tony Tavares and his front office to ensure a smooth transition of ownership. The Lerners, however, are expected to be immediately involved in the detailed stadium planning process to move that forward as rapidly as possible. "I also want to thank Tony Tavares, Jim Bowden, Frank Robinson and the entire Nationals' staff for their continuing hard work on our behalf," said Commissioner Selig. "Everyone in the industry is grateful for their efforts."
  17. This was the failure of the leader not the failure of a mission. From reading your post the death of Esequiel Hernandez, Jr. was an accidental homicide. I can promise you that there will be no mission to capture American citizens of Hispanic/Latino descent. The death of Esequiel Hernandez will be remembered with the respect that it deserves and a lesson for future military and civilian operations.
  18. Last Monday Taliban was planning to attack the Forward Operating Base (FOB) where Rob is stationed in retaliation for capturing their leader along with a cache of weapons, and insurgents. The attack never came, due to a really good relationship local villagers. Rob is either going to FOB Lagman, which is the battalion headquarters, where his platoon will be the permanent Quick Response Force for the entire battalion. The other possible outpost is FOB Lain, which is a Special Forces base, his platoon would be attatched to them, and acting as their bulk muscle when needed. I am just happy Rob is alive. He is a hero in my book.
  19. This week, a delegation of Alaska youth brought a “Letter to Our Leaders on Global Warming” with 5,000 signatures from Alaska high school students to Washington, D.C. to demand action on global warming. The effort, with signatures from teens in more than 100 communities, was spearheaded by Alaska Youth for Environmental Action. Representing Alaska Native villages and urban communities, the teen delegation met with several members of Congress, including Alaska’s delegation and other House and Senate lawmakers, to highlight the dramatic impacts global warming is having on Alaska’s economy, natural resources, and cultures. The teens are calling on Congress to pass legislation that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and provides incentives for renewable energy. “We see global warming happening in Alaska, and we want our leaders to know that if they don’t do something today, my generation will pay for it tomorrow,” said Verner Wilson, a Yup’ik Alaska Native from Dillingham, who drafted the petition. “I started this petition to ask our leaders to help protect this place that Alaska youth have inherited, and to protect our lifestyles and cultures. Alaskan communities like Shishmaref are sinking, and invasive species are affecting the environment that Alaskans have depended upon for thousands of years.” Since January 2006, teens in the AYEA program have traveled the state, presenting on global warming and teaching students what they can do to reduce their carbon emissions. Community interest in the effort has been overwhelming—the teens have presented in over two hundred and fifty classrooms. Charlee Lockwood, a young woman from the village of St. Michael on the northwest coast of Alaska, is one of many Alaska Native youth concerned about the impacts of global warming on subsistence and Native culture. “Because so many youth from so many villages have signed this petition, I really feel like I am helping others. By speaking to other youth about global warming, I have given other people the courage to speak up.” “Global warming is here and now. Alaska is among the most impacted regions in the world, facing temperature increases at least four times greater than the world average according to the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment,” said Anchorage student Tim Treuer, a member of the youth delegation who has collected several hundred signatures. “Alaska’s three biggest industries--oil and gas, tourism and fishing—are already being hurt by rising temperatures,” states Justin Hurst, a graduate of Dimond High School who has worked at the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau for the past few summers. “Today, tourists have to take a boat to the Portage Glacier,” because of its dramatic recession. The teens raised funds to purchase “green tags” to offset the carbon emissions created by their flights to Washington. Fellow Alaskan teens also presented the petition to leaders in Juneau and Anchorage this week, requesting local initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Alaska Youth for Environmental Action (AYEA) is a high school leadership program of the National Wildlife Federation, founded by six teenagers in 1998. 24. After three years of relentless work by DC Vote, a mark-up is scheduled in the House Government Reform Committee for a piece of legislation that would give DC residents a voting representative in the House for the first time ever. The new legislation is the DC Fair and Equal House Voting Rights Act of 2006, which was announced by Representative Tom Davis (R-VA) and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC). DC Vote has worked closely with Davis, Norton, and other members of Congress to address concerns about the original DC voting rights legislation (H.R. 2043) and build a consensus for the new bill. "We are on the brink of a major voting rights victory," said DC Vote Executive Director Ilir Zherka. "DC Vote has dedicated long hours and tireless efforts to see movement on a voting rights bill, and today we celebrate with our coalition partners as we take one step closer to bringing democracy to America's capital." DC Vote urges a swift mark-up in committee and action by Congress. Americans must raise their voices to help encourage Congress to bring this important issue to the forefront. "We call on Washingtonians to rise up," said Zherka. "We are the closest we have ever been to voting representation in Congress, and DC residents should be shouting from the rooftops and engaging friends across the country to make this critical bill a law." DC Vote has organized coalition meetings, met with congressional staffers, educated the public on the importance of DC voting rights legislation, and proposed changes to improve the bill. The DC FAIR Act (H.R. 2043) would: Give the historically-Democratic District of Columbia its first voting member in the U.S. House of Representatives. Give the historically-Republican state of Utah a fourth vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Create these two new seats in the House by temporarily raising the number of Representatives from 435 to 437. After the 2010 U.S. Census reapportionment, the number of House seats would return to 435 with DC retaining a full vote in the House. Contact your congressman today. Here is a letter you can cut and paste. This service will assist you by identifying your Congressperson in the U.S. House of Representatives and providing contact information. http://www.house.gov/writerep/
