This is a very interesting story about a recent devious tactic being used by one of the original ICANN accredited registrars, NetworkSolutions. Apparently NetworkSolutions is internally registering each and every domain name that a user searches for using their website, essentially holding it hostage so that it can not be purchased at any other significantly cheaper and more ethical registrar. If true, NetworkSolutions may lose trust of its customer base. A user named Stratagenix contacted Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and got the following response: ICANN was created through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the U.S. Department of Commerce and ICANN to transition management of the Domain Name System (DNS) from the U.S. government to the global community. The most recently issued version of the MoU is intended to be the last and sets out a series of goals for ICANN that, when achieved, will result in a fully independent ICANN organization.

The first sunspot marking a new solar cycle has been identified, physicists at the NOAA announced on January 4. This sunspot is a precursor for the normal increase in activity which takes place during the 11-year solar cycle. This sunspot belongs clearly to solar cycle 24. An official definition of the start of a solar cycle does not exist. But, let's give it a try. The solar activity cycle can be quantified by the (daily, monthly, yearly) sunspot number. A next solar cycle manifest itself by the appearance of associated sunspots: high-latitude sunspots with a reversed magnetic configuration in comparison with sunspots of the previous cycle. The conditions about polarity is added only since magnetic field measurements were done. It is clear that cycles overlap: sunspots belonging to one cycle and sunspots belonging to a next cycle can simultanuous be present. In fact, the next cycle officially starts when a sunspot minimum is reached, this is at the crossing in time of the sunspot number curves of both cycles. The point is that we can only afterwards determine the starting time. "This sunspot is like the first robin of spring. In this case, it’s an early omen of solar storms that will gradually increase over the next few years," said solar physicist Douglas Biesecker of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center. The new sunspot, identified as #10,981, is the latest visible spot to appear since NOAA began numbering them on January 5, 1972. Its high-latitude location at 27 degrees North, and its negative polarity leading to the right in the Northern Hemisphere are clear-cut signs of a new solar cycle, according to NOAA experts. The first active regions and sunspots of a new solar cycle can emerge at high latitudes while those from the previous cycle continue to form closer to the equator. The sunspot has been reported by several observatories, confirming this is the first spot which developed into a visible sunspot group. SpaceWeather.com reported that it produced auroras on Jan. 5th. "It was a nice flowing display that persisted for an hour and a half," reports photographer Calvin Hall of Palmer, Alaska. A sunspot is an area of highly organized magnetic activity on the surface of the sun. The new 11-year cycle is expected to build gradually, with the number of sunspots and solar storms reaching a maximum by 2011 or 2012, though devastating storms can occur at any time. In December 2007, a high latitude area with the correct magnetic configuration but no sunspot was spotted (see the previous news item). Now, a sunspot with the correct magnetic configuration was seen. The appearance of one sunspot isolated in time, even if it has the correct magnetic configuration, can be a false start if this sunspot is not followed by a sequence of sunspots with the correct magnetic configuration. But both the December and January event give a good indication that solar cycle 24 is about to arrive in it's full glory.

In my opinion, a president has to strong mentally, physically, and spiritually. Tears of Joy and Remorse are acceptable at appropriate times for a President. Tears of Stress and Fustration are not. I want a strong leader that has a good poker face during a major economic, environmental, and/or security crisis.

In a just a few moments Joe Gibbs will make public his resignation. There is speculation that Bill Cower is possibly coming to town. There are rumors flying everywhere. Bill Cower is looking is looking for a home in Loudon County, Virginia. I hope this is not true. Greg Williams and Al Saunders should be offerred the job. Sean Taylor's death brought family back to the team, owner, and fans who just love the game. Snyder needs to show loyalty to his family and promote from within.

Here is anothe Jellyfish Story that is worth reading http://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/sample.cgi/jnp.../np060341b.html Recently, economic and social damage caused by the mass appearance of jellyfish1 has frequently been reported. A typical incident involved damage to power plants located on the coasts, which draw seawater as coolant2 (both thermal and nuclear power plants). Jellyfish accumulate in the tunnel, reducing water flow and causing shutdowns of the plant. Furthermore, in recent years, huge numbers of Nemopilema nomurai, one of the largest jellyfish in the world (diameter of 2 m, weight of 200 kg at maximum), were caught by net fishing in gulf areas of the Sea of Japan. Years of mass appearances of Aurelia aurita, which is the most abundant species found in all the oceans, have been investigated in the Black Sea area.3 The effect of global warming may increase the growth and survival rates of jellyfish, and artificial structures built on the coasts may provide a favorable environment for their polyps. Moreover, indiscriminate fishing reduces the number of fish that feed on plankton communities.4 The removal of jellyfish has now become a necessary routine in gulf areas, ports, industrial facilities, and power plants along the coasts. As a result, a huge number of jellyfish bodies are collected and accumulate as waste. Although some trials have attempted to utilize jellyfish waste as fertilizer or food, no real solution has been found to cover the cost of removing jellyfish from the environment. Collagens can be extracted but are not very economically profitable because of their low prices.5 Although various proteins found in jellyfish, such as collagens, have attracted the attention of researchers,6 the existence of glyco-materials is poorly understood. In this report, we present the results of extraction of glyco-materials from jellyfish and the discovery of a new glycoprotein in the mucin family. Qniumucin is a highly polymerized mucin with a well-defined repeating domain and a widely distributed molecular mass. Similarity in the structure is noted for quniumucin and antifreeze proteins19,20 (AFPs) extracted from insects, fish, and plants. One of the simplest structures of AFP to be artificially synthesized21 is the polymer with a tandem repeat of Thr(GalNAc-Gal)-Ala. Accordingly, a similar antifreeze function is also expected for qniumucin from jellyfish. The mass production of qniumucin is possible because a large number of jellyfish can be obtained as waste. Various applications are expected for this substance considering the present commercial use of gastric mucin from porcine stomachs and mucin from bovine submaxillary glands, substitution for human mucus, carriers for drug delivery, components of artificial extracellular matrices, antibiotic reagents, moisture retainers for cosmetic materials, and food additives.

ASIMO (アシモ, ashimo?) is a humanoid robot created by Honda Motor Company. Standing at 130 centimeters (4 feet 3 inches) and weighing 54 kilograms (119 pounds), the robot resembles a small astronaut wearing a backpack and can walk on two feet at speeds up to 6 km/h (3.7 mph). ASIMO was created at Honda's Research & Development Wako Fundamental Technical Research Center in Japan. It is the current model in a line of eleven that began in 1986 with E0. Officially, the name is an acronym for "Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility". Honda's official statements[2] indicate that the robot's name is not a reference to science fiction writer and inventor of the Three Laws of Robotics, Isaac Asimov. In Japanese, the name is pronounced ashimo and, not coincidentally, means "legs also" (from Japanese 足も). The robot's size was chosen to allow it to operate freely in the human living space and to make it people-friendly. This size allows the robot to operate light switches and door knobs, and work at tables and work benches. Its eyes are located at the level of an adult's eyes when the adult is sitting in a chair. A height of 120cm makes it easy to communicate with. Honda feels that a robot height between 120cm and that of an adult is ideal for operating in the human living space. http://world.honda.com/HDTV/ASIMO/ Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has further advanced intelligence technologies enabling its advanced humanoid robot ASIMO to act autonomously and perform uninterrupted service to office guests. Honda developed an intelligence technology that enhances smooth movement by enabling ASIMO to choose between stepping back and yielding the right-of-way or continuing to walk based on the predicted movement of oncoming people. Honda also developed a new intelligence technology related to ASIMO’s ability to perform tasks such as carrying a tray and pushing a cart. In addition, a newly added function enables ASIMO to automatically charge its battery when its remaining battery level falls below a certain level. Furthermore, a new comprehensive system was developed so that multiple ASIMOs can share tasks by adjusting to the situation and work together in coordination to provide uninterrupted service. For example, if one ASIMO is idled while recharging, other ASIMO robots will step in and perform assigned tasks. Since introducing an all-new ASIMO in 2005, with more advanced physical and intelligence capabilities, Honda has focused its R&D efforts more on the area of intelligence technologies. The newly developed technologies, which enable ASIMO to operate in an environment with people and other ASIMOs, bring Honda one step closer to the development of a humanoid robot that can be put to practical use in a real world environment requiring coexistence with people. ASIMO is the world’s first humanoid robot to exhibit such a broad range of intelligent capabilities. 1. Recognition of moving objects 2. Posture/gesture recognition 3. Environment recognition 4. Sound recognition 5. Face recognition. Using the visual information captured by the camera mounted in its head, ASIMO can detect the movements of multiple objects, assessing distance and direction Specifically, ASIMO can: : follow the movements of people with its camera; : follow a person; : greet a person when he or she approaches. Based on visual information, ASIMO can interpret the positioning and movement of a hand, recognizing postures and gestures. Thus ASIMO can react not only to voice commands, but also to the natural movements of human beings. For example, ASIMO can: : recognize an indicated location and move to that location (posture recognition); : shake a person's hand when a handshake is offered (posture recognition); : respond to a wave by waving back (gesture recognition). ASIMO is able to assess its immediate environment, recognizing the position of obstacles and avoiding them to prevent collisions. Specifically, ASIMO can: : stop and start to avoid a human being or other moving object which suddenly appears in its path; : recognize immobile objects in its path and move around them. For example, ASIMO can: : recognize when its name is called, and turn to face the source of the sound; : look at the face of the person speaking, and respond; : recognize sudden, unusual sounds, such as that of a falling object or a collision, and face in that direction. ASIMO has the ability to recognize faces, even when ASIMO or the human being is moving. For example, ASIMO can: : recognize the faces of people which have been pre-registered, addressing them by name, communicating messages to them, and guiding them; : recognize approximately ten different people. ASIMO can: : execute functions appropriately based on the user's customer data; : greet visitors, informing personnel of the visitor's arrival by transmitting messages and pictures of the visitor's face; : guide visitors to a predetermined location, etc. Accessing information via the Internet, ASIMO can become a provider of news and weather updates, for example, ready to answer people's questions, etc. Watch the video. It is quite Amazing how far in technology we have progressed.

This project is part of an Engineering 112 team project at Stephen F. Austin State University. This work was inspired by TheRecentPast. Here is a Status Productions had to say about it. The object of this experiment is to produce a 'calorimeter' based on a novel design that can measure the input to output power ratios of an electrically noisy and complex cold fusion system. Instead of measurement of heat directly from a unit, the system will yield the equivalent of COP (COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE) relating the efficiency of the test system. It does this in a way that is entirely immune to electrical input noise complications that normally arise in submerged plasma systems. The goal is to produce a device that uses an auxiliary resistive heater that can be turned up and down until the overall system is “self sustaining”. Some Cold fusion systems appear to give over 5 to 1 input to output power ratios. If these turn out to be true values, this system should be capable of being a stand alone self sustaining device. If such Cold fusion claims are not valid for the system under test, then resistive heating will be require to keep the system running. The Stirling engine was invented in 1816 by the Rev. Robert Stirling who sought to create a safer alternative to the steam engines of the time, whose boilers often exploded due to the high pressure of the steam and the primitive materials of the time. Stirling engines convert any temperature differential directly to movement: they use a displacer piston to move enclosed air back and forth between cold and hot reservoirs. At the hot reservoir, the air expands and pushes a power piston, producing work and displacing the air to the cold reservoir. There the air contracts and pulls the power piston, closing the cycle. http://www.physics.sfasu.edu/astro/courses...e/stirling.html

The word caucus is a North American Indian word, thought to be of Algonquin origin, meaning a gathering of the ruling tribal chiefs. The modern definition describes caucuses as a process of political party members gathering to make policy decisions and to select candidates. On caucus night, Iowans gather by party preference to elect delegates to the 99 county conventions. Presidential preference on the Republican side is done with a straw vote of those attending the caucus. This vote is sometimes done by a show of hands or by dividing themselves into groups according to candidate. In precincts that elect only 1 delegate they choose the delegate by majority vote and it must be a paper ballot. Democratic candidates must receive at least 15 percent of the votes in that precinct to move on to the county convention. If a candidate receives less than 15 percent of the votes, supporters of non-viable candidates have the option to join a viable candidate group, join another non-viable candidate group to become viable, join other groups to form an uncommitted group or chose to go nowhere and not be counted. Non-viable groups have up to 30 minutes to realign, if they fail to do so in that time, they can ask the for more time, which is voted on by the caucus as a whole. If the caucus refuses, re-alignment is done and delegates are awarded. A "third party" may hold a convention to nominate one candidate for president and one for vice president as well. The results of this caucus activity on both the Democratic and Republican sides are not binding on the elected delegates, but the delegates usually feel obligated to follow the wishes expressed by the caucus-goers. Thus the initial caucus results provide a good barometer of the composition of Iowa's national delegation. Iowans gather by party preference in designated schools, public buildings or in private homes. Efforts are being made to move caucus locations into public buildings. The caucus location is determined by the County Chairs of each political party for all 1,784 precincts. The exact location is determined by the expected turn-out of each precinct and by availability.

This is beginning to make sense to me. American Express Travel is really owned and operated by Wipro. That is why they had trouble transferring me to an American Agent. This release I found explains it all. Wipro owns the name American Express Travel.

The curse of Jessica Simpson was once again apparent at Fedex this afternoon. It was cold and rainy throughout the entire game. But, watching Dallas fans make excuses for their team's demise made it all worth it. The Jessica Simpson posters around the stadium were quite funny. I really think Mr. Snyder should keep the 21 up on the stadium. Sean's spirit is strong with the Redskins and at this point we are the hottest team in football. Next week the Seahawks. Hail to the Redskins.

Chinese companies Nanjing Automobile and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation completed their 2.095 billion yuan ($285.7 million) merger yesterday in an attempt to create the country's first "world class" automotive company. SAIC Motor will pay for the vehicle and core auto parts operations of Nanjing Auto, owner of the classic MG Rover brand, the Chinese firms' parent companies said in a joint statement. Nanjing Auto's parent company, Yuejin, will in return get 320 million shares in SAIC Motor, the statement added, equal to 4.9 percent of the Shanghai-listed firm's total shares. The Yuejin Motor Group is one of tne of the largest companies in China. The company has an annual production capacity of over 180,000 vehicles and has three major vehicle production bases. The Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer which ranks the third among the "Big Five" Chinese automakers (the other four are First Automobile Works, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Chang'an Motors, and Chery Automobile). SAIC partnered with General Motors to form Shanghai GM, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, and the Pan-Asia Technical Automotive Center. SAIC also partnered with Volkswagen Group in the formation of Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive. SAIC is already builds a revamped version of the Rover 75 in Shanghai, while Nanjing owns the rights to MG and plans to start low volume production of sports cars at the old MG Rover factory at Longbridge early next year. The Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation (NAC) is a state-owned enterprise with history dates back 1947 and one of the oldest Chinese automobile manufacturer. Nanjing has reached an annual capacity of 200,000 sets of various autos, including over 400 kinds of saloon cars, light trucks, heavy trucks, light buses, off-road vehicles, estate cars, special vehicles and special-purpose vehicles as well as a wide series and multi-type product mix of various chassis, which has developed into four integrated production bases of Yuejin, Nanjing-Iveco, Nanjing-Fiat and Soyat. On July 22, 2005, the Nanjing Automobile Group purchased the remaining assets of British MG Rover Group for £53 million. The MG Rover plant at Longbridge was for many years one of the most important factories in Europe and was the largest British owned car manufacturing plant until the bankruptcy of the MG Rover Group. After the factory of Abingdon closed in 1980, Longbridge was also from 1982 the home of MG. Longbridge employed 16,000 ten years ago, down to 6,000 when the company collapsed into administration in April 2005. On July 12, 2006 senior officials of Nanjing Automobile Corporation announced the revival of the historic MG brand of vehicles, as well as plans to build a new MG product in Oklahoma, with the formation of MG Motors North America, Inc., in a ceremony in Oklahoma City. The deal is aimed at building the combined group into a world- class producer with unprecedented scale in China, SAIC said in a statement yesterday. As part of the merger, Italian car group Fiat will sell its 50 per cent share of a joint venture with Nanjing, it was announced. Fiat is known to be unhappy with Nanjing's acquisition of the MG assets as well as with its link up with SAIC. The two companies will, however, continue to collaborate on building commercial vehicles and production of components. Welcoming the merger, Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby said: "I look forward to the biggest car producer in China playing a significant role in investing in Birmingham ... and providing a real boost for car production at Longbridge. It's great timing with the Longbridge Action Plan, our vision for Longbridge as an eco-town creating 10,000 jobs." http://www.saicmotor.com/english/index.shtml http://www.nanqi.comspam/indexe.asp http://www.yjmotorsspam/main.asp

I am willing to bet the people will blame Pakistan's military-security establishment on this one. It will be interesting to find out who plotted and carried out the killing this respected democratic figure. According to intelligence reports, the assassin managed to approach Bhutto and position himself within a short distance of her, before proceeding to shoot her and detonate the explosives with which he was strapped. Not only did the assassin want to cause maximum casualties, but he also hoped that authorities would later be unable to identify him and thus ascertain which organization he was working for. Ms Bhutto knew that the military and intelligence did not want her back and has the paid ultimate price for being prepared to engage with her enemies on behalf of the people of Pakistan and her vision for them.

This game was pure Joe Gibbs' football. Hats off to the the Redskins Coaching staff on putting together a fantastic game plan. The Redskins defense was able contain Peterson. But along with that, Collins was the key. In his past 3 wins, the 13-year veteran proved that he can manage a game. His quick release and his ability to direct the pace of the game are positive going against the Dallas Cowgirls this week.

I see members of the Democratic Party spending alot of posting on DCMessageBoards.com. I think that is what the Republican party is failing to understand. The Internet has now passed televised media. It does not matter about how whiz bang a network's technology is. The discourse is all that matters.

A rare 710-year-old copy of the Magna Carta valued was sold by The Perot Foundation at Sotheby's in New York last night. It fetched US$21.3 million,[16] the most ever paid publicly for a document. It was bought by David Rubenstein of The Carlyle Group: "I thought it was very important that the Magna Carta stay in the United States and I was concerned that the only copy in the United States might escape as a result of this auction," Rubenstein said after the auction. David M. Rubenstein is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms. Mr. Rubenstein co-founded the firm in 1987. Since then, Carlyle has grown into a firm managing more than $75 billion from 33 offices around the world. Magna Carta (Latin for "Great Charter", literally "Great Paper"), also called Magna Carta Libertatum ("Great Charter of Freedoms"), established rights of the English people and curbed the power of the king. The U.S. Constitution includes ideas and phrases taken almost directly from the charter, which rebellious barons forced their oppressive King John to sign in 1215. Sotheby's said the Magna Carta was ratified and reissued with each monarch who succeeded John. It was enacted as law in 1297 by the British parliament when it was reissued by King Edward I. The copy to be sold is from 1297. It was held by the Brudenell family, earls of Cardigan, who had owned it for five centuries, before being sold to the Perot Foundation in 1984. For modern times, the most enduring legacy of Magna Carta is considered the right of habeas corpus. This right arises from what are now known as clauses 36, 38, 39, and 40 of the 1215 Magna Carta. This right arises from what are now known as clauses 36, 38, 39, and 40 of the 1215 Magna Carta. Sotheby's said there are fewer than 20 copies of the Magna Carta and that this copy, which has been on loan to be displayed beside the Declaration of Independence at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington D.C., is one of only two held outside of Britain. The other copy, also from 1297, is owned by the Australian government. David Redden, Sotheby's vice chairman, said the document "symbolizes mankind's eternal quest for freedom; it is a talisman of liberty." Sotheby's said The Perot Foundation, created by billionaire former U.S. presidential candidate Ross Perot to make philanthropic grants, would use the money for its charities. The Foundation bought the Magna Carta in 1984.
