Are you fed up with the flood of wack mix-CDs by no skills DJs featuring no-name artists, "freestyles" over corny industry beats, with a gunshot sound effect over every other track? What about all the 'retro' underground mix-CDs that act like good underground hip hop disappeared along with the 90s? To the rescue, DJ Eurok is back with another banging hip hop mix CD: Back Rent!!! Friday will be the official DJ EUROK "BACK RENT" MIX CD RELEASE PARTY!! DJ Eurok (you-rock) is a Salvadoran American hip-hop artist based in Washington, DC. A multi-talented DJ, producer, poet and hip-hop MC, Eurok creates music that challenges and redefines genres. A fixture in the local DJ scene - Eurok has been a featured performer at a number of venues in the DC area. Regarded for his careful selection and crowd rocking blend of hip hop, soul grooves, Latin flavors, and funky breaks, Eurok is a respected turntable-artist and a sought after performer. He also is the show DJ for DC Hip Hop legends Head-Roc (3LG, Infinite Loop) and Noyeek the Grizzly Bear (Infinite Loop). Along with their manager, Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest, the trio comprises The Head-Roc War Machine - catch them on tour in a city near you! A skilled producer in a number of styles, Eurok creates dynamic tracks that build upon hip hop's sonic foundations and draw upon an influence of various future and world musics. His vision for this style, dubbed beat science, can be heard on his debut album Self Realization. DJ Eurok's production has received praise from music connoisseurs of all genres, rocking sound systems from Tokyo to Germany and everywhere in between...

Flex Mathews - Who's Got Next?

0IMG_8758.jpg

Flex Mathews has been a rising star in the Mid Atlantic regional Hip Hop scene for much of the last 5 years. He was named one of URB Magazine's Next 100 Artists in 2005, and his transition from the local DC underground to national recognition has been the product of his dedication, quality live show performance, as well as his numerous victories in MC battles. Along with his DJ/Producer Damu the Fudge Munk, Flex Matthews has appeared at countless events in the DC area, opening for national Hip Hop recording artists such as Gang Starr, Camp Lo, Das EFX, Cappadonna, and Cannibal Ox. He has also made appearances on the 2004 and 2005 Vans Warped Tour on the Code of the Cuts Stage. A familiar face in the local scene – Flex has come to represent a new generation of the DC Underground.

Flex and Damu recently released their debut EP – The Handsome Grandson – independently on CD and 12'' vinyl. They are currently promoting the record to college radio, underground DJs and the mixtape circuit. Additionally, they have been taking their music to the masses, doing impromptu street performances and promoting at DC's hotspots. If you ask Flex, its not about blowing up or any of the other Hip Hop clichés for rising stardom – he puts it quite simply "I just like to rap."
