TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iraqi deputy prime minister has called Iran an important neighbor and stressed his country's willingness to strengthen bilateral ties.

Barham Saleh asserted that Iraq favors strong political, economic and security relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, press tv reported.

Iraq enjoys good neighborly relations with all the states in the region and respects the sovereignty of all of them, he added.

The Arab states, along with Iran, Turkey and the US, should accept the identity of Iraq as it is today and help in efforts to promote security throughout the country, he told Al-Arabia TV.

Referring to the presence of the Islamic Republic's armed opposition, the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) in Iraq, he said that Baghdad opposes any threat, in any form, poised to the neighboring countries from its territory.

Earlier this month, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said during a landmark visit to Baghdad by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that his country's constitution bans presence of the terrorist group in Iraq, adding that proper measures have been adopted to flush the MKO out of Iran's western neighbor.
