Guest Soldier of God_* Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 The weekly Washington Business Journal includes a regular section titled “Good Works” – a brief column on organizations and people that engage in charity work around the metropolitan area. One of today’s “Good Works” recipients is So Others Might Eat (SOME), which has a feeding facility on the unit block of O Street NW. SOME's website is www.some.org. Here is the text of this 2/1/2008 WBJ “Good Works” item: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who’s giving: Bill and Joanne Conway Who’s receiving: SOME (So Others Might Eat) What’s being given: $5 million Background: The Conways committed $5 million to help the local nonprofit fulfill its goal of developing 1,000 units of affordable, supportive-service housing for homeless and low-income people in DC. The donation is 25% of the $20 million SOME needs to raise for $150 million in capital projects. Bill Conway will become a member of SOME's corporate advisory board and assist in raising the remaining $15 million. SOME operates more than 300 units of affordable housing that serve nearly 400 women, men and children. A few words from the sponsor: “Joanne and I have been very blessed in our lives, and we are happy to be able to help develop safe, decent housing for homeless and extremely low-income people,” Bill Conway says. “We challenge private donors, foundations and corporations to join this effort.” Quote
