Guest Darin Simmons, Jr. Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Shake Things Up! Be a Mentor! Capital Partners for Education (CPE), the only combination scholarship, mentoring, and academic support and enrichment organization in the Washington Metropolitan area, is seeking motivated and committed professionals to mentor low-income high school students. There are no special skills required to mentor a high school student. CPE mentors are ordinary people, 21 years of age or older, who want to spend quality time with young adults in their community. Becoming a mentor is a small commitment with a big impact. Youth who meet regularly with mentors have fewer absences from school, better attitudes towards school, more confidence in their schoolwork and have a better chance of attending college! CPE asks their mentors to commit to: * A two-year mentoring relationship * Meeting with their student once a month * Calling/emailing their student once per week * Attending one new mentor training session 2005 Mentor Training Sessions Dates: Wednesday, March 23rd 6:30pm-9:30pm Saturday, March 26th 10:30am-1:30pm Wednesday April 20th 6:30pm-9:30pm Saturday, May 7th 10:30am-1:30pm Saturday, May 14th 10:30am-1:30pm Saturday, June 11th 10:30am-1:30pm For more information on CPE's mentoring opportunities and to download a mentor application, please visit our website at www.cpfe.org and see the section labeled applications.
