2012 Republican Candidates

Guest Bill H.

The South Carolina debates have turned into bloodthirsty KKK rallies. Newt is positioning the GOP to become the White only party.

There’s a saying that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, a historian, hasn’t forgotten the past; in fact, he’d like to repeat it. Particularly Andrew Jackson’s “kill thine enemy” approach.

BTW, Jackson was a Democrat.

BlingBling, You are about as dumb as a stump and worth about as much too! South Carolina loved what they heard Newt. No more handouts. This was a major victory and a peek at his strategy to take the South. Say what they want to hear. The South Will Rise Again!!!

The Republican platform is built on hate and bile. David Frum's critique points this out beautifully. The right has lost its way. The left are corporate punks like all politicians but the right are a huge mess. Look at the choices the right has for nomination. These guys are all horrible.

The Tea Party considers Mitt Romney part of the Problem. Obama is to Romney, as Coke is to Pepsi.

The tea party movement is not only a reaction to the big government policies of President Obama and the Democrats who ran Congress from 2006-2008. It is also a reaction to the disappointment and frustration with big government Republicans like Romney, who ran the country too much like the Democrats for too many years.

This movement is not about supporting any Republican, it's about supporting tea party principles.

To put it another way, we support free markets, constitutionally limited government, and fiscal responsibility and we oppose politicians from both parties who do not.

Romney does not, so we cannot support him lecturing real tea partiers about the issues that animate this movement.

A few highlights from Romney's record show just how unfriendly he has been over the years to the ideas the tea party holds dear:

-Romney supports TARP.

-Romney led the fight for and implemented health care reform almost identical to ObamaCare in Massachusetts.

-Romney supports cap-and-trade "on a global basis".

-Romney says there's nothing wrong with companies asking for bailouts.

-Romney supports reappointing Ben Bernanke to chairman of the Federal Reserve.

New nationwide poll shows voters want candidates to focus on manufacturing, infrastructure

No major candidate rates strongly; Obama narrowly leads on infrastructure, Romney narrowly on manufacturing issue

A new nationwide poll shows that most voters want this year’s presidential candidates to take stronger positions on both manufacturing and infrastructure issues.

The nonpartisan Clarus Poll found that 70 percent of the national electorate would be more inclined to vote for a presidential candidate with a strong position on America’s manufacturing industries and jobs while a solid 65 percent also said they’d be more inclined to vote for a candidate with a strong position on rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure.

"It's not surprising that the majority of American voters want a president who will fiercely support U.S. manufacturing and a 21st century infrastructure," said AEM President Dennis Slater. "What is surprising is how poorly the candidates are doing at making a commitment to voters to support these issues, which would immediately create jobs and allow us to compete globally."

The poll found that most voters don’t think any of the presidential candidates have been particularly strong on these issues. Among all voters, only Mitt Romney is rated more positively than negatively (albeit narrowly) on the manufacturing issue (+2). All of the other candidates have negative ratings higher than their positive ratings on this issue: Obama -18, Gingrich -8, Santorum -4, Paul -17.

Among all voters, only Barack Obama is rated more positively than negatively (albeit narrowly) on the infrastructure issue (+1). All of the other candidates have negative ratings higher than their positive ratings on this issue: Romney -9, Gingrich -19, Santorum -12, and Paul -17.

"Creating manufacturing jobs and rebuilding infrastructure are both very important issues for voters," said Dr. Ron Faucheux, president of Clarus Research Group. "Based on these poll results, presidential candidates would be wise to focus much more attention on them."

They all say that but do nothing. What I find interesting is the fighting happenning between the RINO establishment and the Tea Party. If voters choose Newt, Ron, or Rick the banks will put their money in Obama. If voters pick Romney the banks win either way and will put money in both Obama and Romney to get favors in return.

Breaking News from Newsmax.com

Mike Reagan, Rush Limbaugh Blast Romney for Smears

Ronald Reagan's eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney's Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan.

Reagan says such claims are false.

Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida."

Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt.

"That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s.

"He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan," Limbaugh said.

On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax:

"I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father.

"Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision.

"It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president.

"As governor of Massachusetts, Romney's achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

"Say what you want about Newt Gingrich but when he was Speaker of the House he surrounded himself with Reagan conservatives and implemented a Ronald Reagan program of low taxes and restrained federal spending.

"Newt's conservative program created a huge economic boom and balanced the budget for the first time in more than a generation."

Mike Reagan concluded: "I would take Newt Gingrich's record any day over Mitt Romney's."

And Nancy Reagan, Reagan's wife, has stressed Gingrich's close relationship with her late husband.

In a 1995 speech at a dinner honoring Ronald Reagan, Nancy said: "The dramatic movement of 1995 is an outgrowth of a much earlier crusade that goes back half a century. Barry Goldwater handed the torch to Ronnie, and in turn Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt and the Republican members of Congress to keep that dream alive."

Romney initiated the most aggressive effort in American history to advance gay rights. He appointed gay judges, issued gay proclamations, gave a “parents of the year” award to a gay couple, funded gay school programs, promoted gay pride parades, gay proms, and that is the beginning. This is a big plus with Independant gay voters and should not be overlooked.

“We thank Governor Romney for having the political courage to speak up for gay Americans. He made it crystal clear this morning that he will be the type of President that gay people, and those who care about gays and lesbians in this country, can trust and be proud of.

Buddy is right! It is not about Obama and Romney. It is about America. Every one of us knows Washington is bought and corrupt. We need to break the connection between money and politics. Special interest money is giving us a huge trade imbalance.

I've been saying this all along, Romney and Obama wear the same shoes with Romney being the lessor of the 2 evils with Gingrich edging out the 3. I like Ron Paul but he's shakey on his foreign policy. Rick Santorum will listen to the people and work for the people. This man cares about the people and our country. He has integrity about himself. I would and will vote for Rick Santorum whether he be a republican or democrat. I dont believe in this crap vote for the party you're registered under. All parties are suppose to be for the American people and their country. What a shame a majority are in for the money and the power of authority. I also think there should be a law against the media being biassed to one party, religion, or wealth. We the people need to get our morals back to the basic. We need to keep our constitution the way our forefathers wrote it and not try to change it to give any president or person the upper hand for authority and power.

SBA LIST ENDORSES RICK SANTORUM FOR PRESIDENT

Nation's Pre-Eminent Pro-Life Advocacy Group Endorses For

The First Time Ever In A GOP Presidential Primary

Verona, PA - The Rick Santorum for President campaign is proud to announce that it has received the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of SBA List, said: "Among the field of strong pro-life candidates in the GOP primary, one stands out as a proven leader in this great human and civil rights cause of our time. Rick Santorum communicates the vision and has exhibited the strategic and tactical prowess the pro-life movement must have in order to succeed. Women and children deserve his leadership, grounded as it is in affirming the dignity of every person. At this inflection point in the primary process and a tipping point in history on the abortion issue, the Susan B. Anthony List endorses Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for President."

Jane Abraham, Chairman of the SBA List Board of Directors, said: "Each one of the candidates in the Republican presidential field have made a commitment to be a pro-life president. However, none of them have the record of consistent leadership that Rick Santorum has demonstrated. At this critical moment in the race, our Board of Directors unanimously decided that we must stand with Rick Santorum, the candidate who throughout his career has stood so strongly for Life."

Rick Santorum said: "I am honored to receive the SBA List's endorsement. Marjorie, Jane, and the entire SBA List team has emerged as true leaders in preserving and protecting the Culture of Life in America. Their tireless efforts to defend the defenseless are heroic. I look forward to working with the SBA List team as we work to reinvigorate the respect for all life - born, unborn, and those of special needs - in America."

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of more than 365,000 Americans dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Guest Buddy Roemer for President

Governor Charles “Buddy” Roemer Suspends Campaign

Baton Rouge, LA –Governor Buddy Roemer issued the following statement on the suspension of his Presidential Campaign:

Today, I am no longer a candidate for President of the United States.

After 17 months of a wonderful campaign, the lack of ballot access in all 50 states makes the quest impossible for now.

I want to thank my family, particularly my wife Scarlett, and my three children Caroline, Chas, and Dakota. I’d also like to thank my three sisters, Margaret, Melinda, Melanie, and my brother Danny for all of their efforts.

I could not have done this without the guidance and brilliance of my campaign manager, Carlos Sierra of El Paso, and without the new media expertise of Jill Sherman and Morgan Martinez, the volunteer efforts of Joshua Chavers, the start-up assistance of a great leader, Skardon Baker of Los Angeles, the courage of my New England director, Jim Knowlton of Worchester, and the scheduling patience of William Pierce of Rhode Island.

A special thank you to Bill Klotz of Louisiana who never faltered— not once. My kitchen cabinet included Taunton Melville of Louisiana, Len Sanderson of DC, Larry Lessig of Massachusetts, Dennis Stine of Louisiana, Brian Silver of California, and Mark McKinnon of Texas.

And to the thousands of volunteers from Alaska to Florida, from Puerto Rico to California, from New Hampshire to Texas: you made the journey worthwhile, particularly since you gave so generously of your time and energy.

We ran like we would serve – Free to Lead. To protect that freedom, we fully disclosed every contribution. We accepted no contributions above $100. We accepted no PAC money, no Super PAC money, no corporate money, and no lobbyist money.

We assumed no debt and we end this campaign with money in the bank. Once again, we ran like we intended to serve. We received contributions averaging less than $50 each from thousands and thousands of Democrats, Republicans and Independents in all 50 states.

We were not included in a single one of the 23 nationally televised GOP debates, and yet received 7% of the popular vote in a national poll conducted just a few weeks ago. My team was amazing and I thank you.

America is a nation at risk. Job prospects are inadequate. Trade is neither smart nor fair. The tax code is unreadable and, I say, un-American. The budget is unsustainable. Small business must be re-vitalized. Energy has no strategy. Healthcare is not healthy. Banks are still too big to fail, and comprehensive immigration reform is a fantasy.

We can turn all these problems into opportunities, but we must begin our battle with the special interests who are content with the status quo. They don’t want change. They spend billions to keep their control. They own our political system. They bought it with their fundraisers for incumbents, and with jobs for the already powerful. They bought it with special favors and inside information for those who can return the gesture in amendments and legislation and earmarks. They finance the elections. They hire the politicians upon their retirement. And they own the two major political parties. It’s un-democratic and it’s simply un-American.

Look at the facts. 98% of the electorate does not give a penny to presidential or congressional campaigns. The money comes from Wall Street banks, corporate PACs, the labor union coffers, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, Big Oil, military defense contractors, miscellaneous PACs, Super PACs and the lobbyists. The money comes from all of these special interests, and what do they get in return? “Too big to fail” and the death of Glass-Steagall, insurance monopolies, pharmaceutical profit protection, no-bid contracts, $675 hammers for the military, earmarks, $5.1 billion in profits and pay no federal income taxes, subsidies for the wealthiest corporations, and all of the big givers first in line for any perks or favors.

The special interests give the money and they get a stacked deck in return. And what do we get? We get gridlock, corruption, a do-nothing Washington, and a Congress almost certain to be re-elected year after year.

Although there is a cry for action on many critical issues, we have to start with the issue that deals with the control of the system: campaign finance reform. If we are to become a practicing republic again, we must end the addiction to special interest money.

Reform must be the first issue.

As I am no longer a candidate for president, I am free to pledge a good portion of the rest of my life to enacting campaign reform in the halls of Congress and the corridors of the White House. Instead of using my right to the floor of Congress to lobby for corporate clients, I will lobby for the American people who want reform.

It might require a new organization to get this done, but regardless, we will highlight corruption and its effects on policy and public perception, suggest solutions, build coalitions, and support the advocates of our ideas or those who have better ones.

This struggle will not be easy. The enemies of reform are powerful and entrenched, but this is a struggle that America must win. The key is to realize that I cannot beat them alone. This will take a team effort. We must work together, setting aside inevitable differences on other issues in order to build a reform team. We must dare to look at a total reform package including contribution reform, reapportionment reform, and term-limit reform. I cannot do this alone. True and thorough reform will not occur solely as a “me” effort. This must be a “we” effort.

We must have the spirit to ask all political parties to join with us in this effort. To be successful, this endeavor must cross party lines. In truth, the two major parties are addicted to special interests and corporate money. I have said it many times: they are joined at the billfold. The two parties have been graveyards of reform too often in the past. They don’t want reform. They only want victory and reelection.

You already know this to be true. The latest national polling shows that 42% of the electorate now classify themselves as “independent,” with both major parties shrinking in size, scope, and power.

Join with us. Be unafraid. We’ll put a new organization together and will use the power of the people and new media unlike any organization has ever done with a political goal. We will ask other organizations and associations to join with us in building this team of reformers. We will re-energize our republic.

Again, thank you for standing with me. Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope. Together, we will continue to reform our country and make America great once again. We are just getting started.
