The Pennsylvania State University and Georgetown University’s Medical Center are seeking children between the ages of 11 and 13 and their parent/guardian to take part in a study about adolescent brain development. The goal of this study is to find out what leads some youths to misuse drugs or alcohol and how that affects the brain. To be eligible, the Youth Must: be between 11-13 years old not have begun to use drugs or alcohol never have suffered a serious head injury not have metal implants inside the body or non removable metal braces What is involved in participation? The study involves 2 sessions of data collection performed three times over 3 years. During each visit, researchers will ask the youth questions about their behavior, personality, cognitive ability, experiences, and any drug or alcohol use. Adult caregivers will be asked similar questions in a separate room. The youth will be asked to take several thinking tests and play games that assess cognitive, behavioral, and emotional abilities. Non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scans will be used to measure brain activity and structure. Each visit will take between 2-3 hours to complete. Compensation: Eligible youth participants paid: Up to $195 in gift cards for participation in all 6 visits. ($20 for the first visit alone) Parent/Guardian paid: Up to $310 in cash for participation in all 6 visits. ($40 for the first visit alone) Your child will also receive a T-shirt with picture of his/her brain! We will pay for all travel and parking. A study coordinator will ask questions that will take about 10 minutes over the phone. You will receive a $20 check just for completing the phone survey even if you are not eligible. If you are eligible you will be scheduled for your first visit to Georgetown University.

You cannot mention Washington, D.C.'s art gallery scene without naming this gallery. As a presenter of contemporary art, drawing, photography, and challenging art work in expansive exhibits throughout the years, the gallery has earned its place as a top-notch art gallery. They also offer to private and corporate clients services of art acquisition and sale and consultant. Since 1986, the gallery has been an active member of the Art Dealers Association of Greater Washington. Featured Artist Nancy Sansom Reynolds she is a world renowned contemporary sculpture. She creates minimal, abstract sculptures from laminated plywood, cast bronze, resign, and aluminum. Her sculptures have been displayed throughout the United States, Europe, Asian, and Africa. Her work is great to study if you use dynamic shapes in your art. Her technique is to first create a design by using architectural computer program to produce a layout. She next takes separate pieces of material, and layers them on top of each other. After the gallery visit we will walk up the street to Ledo pizza, where you will be treated to pizza and soda drinks. This pizza is has both high quality with generous toppings. Anyone who is a connoisseur of pizza will appreciate the handmade dough with generous toppings.

There's also a gym on the first floor and a couple community rooms for studying/hanging out. There's a Safeway about 2 blocks away and another convenience store and a dry clearners located on the ground floor. This location is AMAZING. Less than 5 minute walk to the Chinatown/Gallery Place metro, less than 15 minute walk to Metro Center, McPherson and Mt. Vernon Metros. There's a Circulator stop just across the street AND you're super close to everything in Chinatown including the Verizon Center, great restaurants and bars. You're also a short walk away from the Mall and lots of museums, and just a short cab from U St/ 14th St/ wherever you'd like to go!
