Dear Natalia 1974, You asked the meaning of my name “Nachiappan”--- It is a name in Tamil that originated few thousand years ago. Meaning— It is a divine representation or ability of Lord Shiva, to attend both as mother and father together as to save a pious and implicitly faithful soul in trouble or distress. Shortly the story behind is when a pregnant girl at distress to reach a destination across a flooded river (in those days no bridges or vehicles or hospitals as like we have) happens to get labor pain when intending to cross the R.Cavery in Tamilnadu, no one to attend to her pain and about to deliver and her soul so pure earns the attention of Lord Shiva (who is a male God) comes to her help posing as a female nurse and attends to the labor and makes the delivery safe only to leave the scene quietly as the earthly mother of the girl comes to take charge."Nachi" the holy mother or respectful lady, "appan"--holy father who also came as mother.(lord Shiva). Coming to the subsides-- you are saying that you are"thinking" of removing subsidies for fossil fuels. Rather it should be that the US Govt (not only US all the other countries as well) should remove subsides in a very quick but in a phased manner within a year. You asked me what I think about the quote above you sent---To be short and sharp--I think we would have been the wisest people if we had taken this "step" through out the world at least at the beginning of 1990. Since this only being said of taking a shape in the near future I can surely say we are not wise and proactive enough to preceive the consequences no matter how sophisticated and advanced we are,in the field of scientific acheivement and social intelligence. Eating ones own"Ecological Niche" is an utter foolishness which no species on earth has ever had done except humans. We say animals are not intelligent, may be they are not sophisticated as like we are but they surely will not be damn fools enough to damage their own "Niche". It is the Great Homo sapiens ruthless to the core tore the planet. The cushion offered by the oceans to absorb Co2 is destroyed and now it has lost all its ability to function as Carbon sink more over becoming acidic enough to harm the ocean dewellers--Courtesy HomoSapians. Now according to the quote it says that US is having a target named "20 in 10". What is the use trying to cure after ALLOWING to be severly infected? In Tamil we have a saying which goes "trying to catch a bird which is on flight leaving the one in hand". The polices in the quote reflect this anology. Then the polices outlined are only pertaining to the US what will other giant emitter like China, India, Brazil,Russia and combined Europe going to do? After all this a " Global issue" not a "US concerned issue" or "a China concerned issue" or " an India concerned issue" or your issue or my issue & bussiness. This should reveal lack of coordination and concesus among the inhabitants of the planet--Shortly we are not wise and with very low social intelligence IQ. The steps outlined in the quote are OK, but should have begun in 1990's which doing now implies acceptence and compliance but not willingly or whole heartedly, which could some what be "voluenteering under insistance or pressure and lacks edge to volunteer with zeal and determination to achieve". Now these steps may or may not draw any significant response from the environment's functional mechanism. What I mean is reducing our emissions may be significant but can they yield SINGNIFICANT RESULTS by reversing the warming?by restoring the habitats destroyed?that is the most ultimate essentialty to live a normal life in this planet, will that be realised? That requires efforts from the whole of the world otherwise these curbs are of insignificant use enough to stand up against environmental disturbances. Iam not trying to say that it is a mission impossible for an environmental restoration what Iam trying to say is--we could have done at ease if we had acted earlier than enormously burdening, risking ourselves mindlessly and damaging some marvelous wonders and gifts offered to us by nature branding those acts under the name "achievements" "developments". We lack the trait to develop friendly and harmonious coexistence with nature. If one of our forefathers suddenly come alive and if we take a tour around the globe he might ask"Is there any alien invasion using any secret weapon system engineering a passive destruction?"!!!!!! Nachiappan.

CARBON TRADE seems to be new bussiness dimmension that is given priority and is potrayed by the industry towards their commitment to the cause of environment. But many things have to be included along with the polluting industry. The people who are responsible for emissons by means of availing luxury causing disproportionate emissions are the ones should be made to comply an "individual standard". There is also a large question that remains how good is money is going to be utilised so as to cause some "anti- warming" of the globe or "pro-cooling" of the globe. Since huge money is invloved so also will be the bigots competing with the geniune people who has real concern for the environment. Reversing the warming trend is no doubt a huge task. Much more complicated is to authenticate this reversal trend if so some steps are taken to reverse the warming. It could be confusing and verification of reversal of warming trend using the money got from Carbon Trade will be one of the important milestone demanded by the companies and the public who paid to contribute Carbon "Tax". Moreover the reversing trend itself is not a simple "switchover" as an operation analogous to hitting keys in a PC to get the task done. It is a time consuming and intensely testing the patience and perseverance of our generations and not us. So the Commitment and contributions could yield only after a long time. It is surely going to be a testing time ahead for the "in coming generation". Nachiappan.

Yes Mr.Luke Wilbur, Certainly they believe more on energy independence and least bothered even for energy efficiency. And they try to give an alternative saying that the new alternative is most viable to energy independence for the nation. Not only leaders in US but also leaders of other nations as well have this thought. They are very complecent because of the availability of "Tar Sands" & "Oil Shale" aloong with "Corn".This is what in Tamil we say "the doctor treated me for headache but made me to inherit stomachache". Nobody in the present world can give a viable and instant alternative to the existing fuels immediately about in a several weeks or months time. But the influential people can take initiative for a phased "withdrawal" of the existing polluting fuels and replace it with environment friendly ones. They can augument research on this issue to evolve and get a good option. Not only solar energy, there are wind powered systems, fuel from cow dungs, or biofuels, tidal or energy from waves, nuclear fussion, and many more new discoveries could be encouraged as a top priority. What ever the fuel we use should in no way put the living world in a harms way for any of the species living. Energy independence is good form of security offered to the people to win their support and stay in power by the poloticians. It is just like appeasing a child by giving candy. Most of our leaders are not able to preceive the future nor having the wisdom to adhere to the scientific findings. For which the world is going to pay a heavy price may even be by blood, lives, mass extinctions, unadjustible changes in the planet which cannot be reversed or set right by human endevour. But if this persists for a long time there is no point in blaming one another some one has to find a solution and make things right. Surely that body or individual should have a contemplative thought with an intention to secure the whole planet and not just US or China or Brazil. For this an effective strategy with practically applicable solution should be in hand and this should also be made available to the public or scientific community for them to make suggestions and ratifictions. These solutions should be enacted by each unit of a state. But the huge question is who will take the intiative?and where will he get the support ?what is his ceredibility? From where will he get the required monetary or financial contribution?who or which industrial group and political group will be opposing? One thing positive is there is considerable awareness, but also an equally negative is relectance by infulential bodies which are stalling the efforts of implementing bodies and these implementing bodies though juvenile are also in infant stage of development and are highly diversified under lot of issues concerning the environment. This cripples their ability to get a focus to counter the opposing influential bodies. The technolgical developments are also vastly not very quick to provide an alternative to the existing polluting system and practices. --NN.Nachiappan. -

Dear Mr.Black Sun, I would like to say that Lohachara is an island that is/was located right at the juncture of the where the huge rivers Ganges and Brahmaputra together confluence before entering bay of bengal. Because of this strategic location there are every chances that an island may shift postions as and when there are minor changes in course or velocity or in ths silt carried by the river system. So normally one can expect disappearance and appearance of an island/tidal flat of tidal islands in those areas. This could be attributed analogous to shifting of huge sand dunes in a desert.(in deserts shifting or disappearing of dunes are quite frequent, but in case of islands like these the "deposition" is stable for quite longer and could even grow for some time large enough to be fertile and support some inhabitations). But at the sametime you cannot just attribute the entire cause on the river system itself there could be some other reasons as well starting from diversion of river system or damming of rivers and lastly but of the great influence of global warming also one can expect these type of changes. Shortly I would say I cannot "say" catorgorically that global warming is "THE CAUSE" for the submergence. But there are some indications that could be attributed to the Global warming. The change in tectonical behaviour of the crust or as I said earlier the river flow dynamics along with global warming could also has equal chances. In the case of Lakasdweep we could precive some changes in the coastline attributed to global warming which has still to be closely monitored before anything to be concluded catogorically. -
Many People in especially in US/Canada think that Global Warming is just an issue that is of a cause concerned or confined to their land or territories alone. This perception should change and the benefit of this change will ultimately make people of other countries realise their responbility towards their part. But firstly the so called developed countries(US/Canada/Russia etc) instead of showing stewarship for the global cause tend to capitalise by projecting the danger and getting themselves prepared after inflicting huge damages. Secondly the so called developing countries such as China/India/Brazil tend to show some cause citing the developed countries and try to evlove their own strategy and do lot of paper work and sanction lot of money accounting for trees that are not at all planted- Disgusting. Thirdly underdeveloped countries their common agenda is fighting hand to mouth or civil war or attending to daily chores the like countries are Bangladesh/Madagascar/congo etc. To eradicate all these disparities and to get everyone involved a Global body should be set up and a commitee like UN Security Council should be raised with veto power. The country that shows remarkable or outstanding contribution should be given due importance and previelages. Will our wisdom and positve thinking mentality be directed to do a kind of this deed? Remember we should not deny previlages to our coming generations. If so we deny then we are not wise but damn fools. We are responsible for dislodging disproportionate amount of carbon into tthe atmosphere after mining them from the earth. At no part of time in history did this much amount of mass scale exploitation of hydrocarbon took place. People have a narrow notion that supporting planting trees and other environment friendly initiatives confined to their country(especially the narrow minded developed nations and corrupt minded developing nations) alone is enough to make the planet safe-- This is what could be described as narrow Chairs. Thank you Mr.Wilbur for taking pains to help me out. I think the list of people that you have provided me could help me to establish contact and look for more prospects in either appointment or some "piece work/aaignments" to assist them in their scientific endevour. And these contacts might help me to establish some association with people who do contribute for environmental cause But for job that You had given some postings which I think I won't seek because it involves me migrating to US and that the US universities are insisting that potential candidates MUST have done their PG courses in US. Meaning that US universities do not give value & recognise the Indian post graduate degrees in our field. But soon I will keep in touch with the people that you have listedout. Thankyou, Nachiappan. -

Dear Mr.Wilbur I wonder how you are able to ask questions that are so short but requires a very long answers. For your question---"Is it difficult to find work in YOUR field in India?" I would say YES it is very difficult to find work in my field--GEOLOGY/EARTH SCIENCES. Both the central and State government stopped recruitment 13 to 14 years back, just when I completed my graduation and already registered and entered the class for post-graduation.Private companies hardly employ geologist or Earth Sciences. Though there is a LITTLE awarness for Environment, they are hardly given any weightage for consideration as an "essential" one.If anyone or authority insist a mandation for environmental cause then they employ for a short period of time and "fire" the post & person after the mandation subsides.Shortly the posts are mostly temprory or a time limited "project". And I have worked in several short term projects. After the project one has walk away even without a termination letter but they would give an experience certificate if it happens to be more than six months.--This is the ground reality as far as my field is concerned. But one exception is the "Robbing industry" that is what we call for minning/ground water extraction firms or companies (requiring high level exploitation). There too as soon as the operation is over the Geologist will be "fired out".No environmental study or reporting or any sought of impact investigation studies or probing. As a result nearly 95 to 96 percent of geology students drift away to other positions such as Banking clerk, postman,Call centre executives, and off late some computer programming, bussiness owners(if he is rich). And the rest three to five percent do some temprory assignments but due to these severe constraints their efficiency are also under stake. Hardly very few keep in pace with the standard after deligent efforts and still get paid little. Next you talked about the economic growth of our country.Yes we are indeed making some rapid growth but this growth is not sustaninable and equitable either. The Rich getting richer and poor getting Poorer. There are villages I have seen which do not have proper roads & electricity available. Only metropolitan cities and in towns you could see the modernisations. Take an example of myself, I have access to internet only when i come to my company I work, otherwise i have to pay and use in a public internet booth which is not affordable to me with what iam paid. There are thousands of villages which does not at all have any access to internet only now they are getting phone facilities. Most of the benefits of economic growth goes to the enormously corrupt govenment officials, of late the benefit goes to computer professionals and bussiness people.Shortly the standard of living of many people remains some what the same as was in seventies or eighties. Next you asked me about my job experience as soon as i completed my postgraduation in GEOLOGY in the year 1993 I worked for a couple of month in a project in a University, next I worked as a clerk for a printing company for a year. Then by early 1995 I joined an Orchard raising real estate company as a HYDRO GEOLOGIST where i was trained to prospect for ground water exploration and extraction. And i did prospecting for ground water using geo-physical methods with resistivity meters.I got some exposure to drilling methods and process. This job lasted for nearly two years. Then by early 1997 I was asked to work for a ground water recharge project at Anna University a famous one chennai. There the project lasted for two years.Where i have to identify areas that would be suitable for recharge of ground water.By early 1999 that project was over. By the middle of 1999 I joined a call center as an executive and was given some trainning in sales and it lasted until the middle of 2002.Since the management and the clients in US had a strained relationship all the employees where "oozed out" or mass retrenchment. From the middle of 2002 I started tutoring in a local school as teacher for science and Geography. Using that experience I joined one reputed school in the city of Madurai as a teacher. But the pay was very poor just 2200 rupees roughly around U$55.00(fiftyfive dollars a month).Since the pay was poor and inadequate for a decent living I had to resign by middle of 2004, the only JOB I quit on my own will!!!!! in my career ever since now. Then I did a shortterm social work for an organistion which is an NGO but for only four or five months.By now 2004 was over. In the beginning of 2005 I joined a limestone prospecting and minning company and that they recruited only for four months for the purpose of exploration. By middle of 2005 I came out and joined a company(it was not a company but a family bussiness) that deals with import and exports for claiming incentives from the government. I left the company and joined the present BPO (Bussiness Process Outsourcing)company in 2006. Here in this BPO company I was called to do a process required by the EPA of US.The job involves processing of ground water data for LANDFILLS in US in a particular tabulation and preparing text file for statistical analysis of ground water monitoring enabling the data to be fed into a software that gives statistical results. But even now Our clients in US are having some problem and so they are unable to give us orders continuously even though we are ready and proved our competency to them,so I do what ever work is given to me by the company. Based on my previous experience the company has asked me to do some bussiness development calls to US.So I do that now at present. So all these economic development and growth are some what just confined to officials in the govenment and some rich industrialist and to selected professionals. It is not a common index. The one major and very significant change is that we are able to communicate with anyone in the world at an amazing extent at awesome speed. Dear Viewers, Two questions raised impeled my thoughts on the subject. One about the TSI on Mars and the other Global Warming on Mars in comparision to Earth. I did enjoy the question and had taken passion to answer because it could be available to all people who are very particular to arrive at a resolution and thereby truth could be evolved. Shortly, Iam happy that iam a part or insturmental to bring out truth or some arguments/views through science. Here I have also attempted to project my thoughts in very simple way so that every person could understand. My knowledge with regard to The TSI is quite limited, though I have the understanding of what it is and its significance. And TSI for Mars is half that of what earth receives. One should also bear in mind that Mars is farther away from the Sun than Earth is to Sun. Though half the size of earth Mars has an atmosphere made of co2 which could be expected to "absorbs & trap" more of radiation offered to it than offered to earth. That is the coeffeciency of absorbed solar radiance by the planet Mars could be more than the coeffeciency of absorbed solar radiation by earth given the size and proximity of earth towards Sun. Simply put if you have Mars in the same distance as Earth and size as earth towards Sun, Mars would absorb more of radiance than Earth. Even then global warming of mars cannot be justified using this because, the global warming process if said to happen in Mars it should be very gradual and should show sign of steady changes be it either reversals or progression in a linear or any other fashion. This is not happening in Mars or gives any sign of this type of "process".Even if data is got in support of warming it will surely say that warming is not fast or sudden or rapid as like our earth. Secondly the planet Mars is roughly half the size of Earth. So the influence of warming by Sun is quite meager (even though as for the sake of arugument we say the coefficiency of solar radiation abosorption by Mars COULD BE HIGHER THAN EARTH) though cannot be ruled out completely. That is, though concluded to be present but only to a slight extent. Then next thing raised is about--- Is Mars is experiencing global warming pattern similar to Earth… It could be a faulty assumption because it is an observation based on a regional change around a polar cap in that planet. This observation of a region also comes from a simple modeled Martian terrain where there are no significant domains such as a huge ocean as like we have in Earth. In Earth this oceanic domain is the one greatly influencing the behavior of our Earth. It had acted as a buffer for a very long time and now it is quite unable to do so continuously and so now show its “weakness” or ”Rupture”. This type of buffer is completely absent in Martian terrain. This influence by ocean on Earth is profound and influences the atmosphere and Ice Caps as well. I mean that the planet Mars is having a terrain that is blanketed by a significant cover of an atmosphere dominated by CO2 that does not have any interaction with a domain as like our oceans. Therefore, the planet Mars has only the surface terrain and its Co2 dominated atmosphere. Simply could be told that Earth has two fluid spheres and Mars has only one—the atmosphere. Only the FLUID spheres(hydroshere-liquid/water and atmosphere--air or any gaseous atmosphere) are greatly, quickly and significantly influenced by Solar output Energy on a Global scale or dimmensions. It could also mean that the Martian atmosphere should behave according to the forcing from external factor robustly or some type of a profound response to external forcing but it is not so seem to behave in a significant manner. Even the thaw of ice in Polar Regions of Martian terrain could be attributed to some type of long term change indigenous to that planet which could be related to a phenomenon called Precession like our wobbling. So the mere “appearance” (not observation) of the polar change in Mars cannot be held as a staunch proof for Warming of that planet. So I would conveniently deduce that Mars is not experiencing global warming pattern similar to Earth. Even if it is so found that there is a warming of Mars it would be very very insignificant. And that will take a long time to affect that planet by the charge of rising temperature & global warming, because the irradiance from the Sun is not only weak in that planet but also it is the one major external forcing related to do warming. So other than the inherent weakness if any in the planet Mars there is no other great or big significant way that Mars will be affected by global warming. And so it could be deduced the major Solar radiance forcing factor has "FAILED"to bring about any significant or sudden and rapid change on the planet Mars. But in our Earth that is not the case there are possibilities to say that the anthropogenic causes are the once that triggered warming which paved way to the irradiance from the Sun to gain entry ,accelerate and complicate the global warming in a greater scale. I mean that anthropogenic factors not only triggered warming but also gave berth to a natural phenomenon (solar radiation) and made to catalyze and impact in a negative or to injurious preposition to life which is the Global warming process. So the warming process is now magnified, complicated, globally rampant, significant and profound in our planet which should not be equated or scaled to compare with other planets. Nachiappan.

Due to time constraint i read through the article as quickly as possible and so could not fully understand this thoroughly but I can say that when ever there is a change in chemical composition of the ocean the ocean body is such that it enormously tend to adjust to the newly given change and has some limit of buffer beyond that the change in chemistry of ocean "solution"triggers a change in physical property and thereby the physical dyanamics of the ocean,I mean the ocean currents. When ocean becomes more saltier their density gets increased(Note:DENSITY is an important factor to reckon with in ocean dynamics). As and when density increases the circulation also get slow down.OR this situation is possible only when there is a situation which is ofcourse a gradual change that can happen under the circumstances when the ENERGY supply to the natural process is some way disrupted.which has to be investigated. nn.Nachiappan.

I want to process data preferably for any type of scientific data but most importantly for environment at a much reduced cost and serve the environment in a better and menanigful way. How can this desire of mine be made posssible. Does any one have any idea or any link to lead me in this career? We can also do projects that requires tasks with the help of CAD, CAM, &CAE. in the field of engineering.
