Rees was asked to help others who already began the process. This is an effort by Christian churches, one conservative Jewish grown and the Islamic Mosque in DC. Rees is not a nut job but knows that 65% or more of the DC people oppose same sex marriage and wants to seize on this fact to shut down gay rights now why the sentiment is there. And then? Nobody in Capitol Hill laughed or thought poorly of the effort to ban same sex marriage in DC but thought it would be interesting to see the outcome. It is believed that a referrendum will be had on the 2008 ballot and the fight will bring in people outside of DC on both sides as the outcome in DC could affect other jurisdictions. Many concede that a same sex marriage ban will pass in DC as most people here while gay tolerant are not gay friendly and are not ready to cross the line and accept same sex marriage. Maybe if gays would stop lying and start being honest then they would get greater respect.
