Had to see it for myself

Gay

Recommended Posts

A few friends of mine said that there was this Democrat vs Democrat bashing each other here on DC Pages so I just had to join up to see it for myself.

Now I have seen it and it is dumb as can be.

Let me see if I have this right. We have this guy named Rees and his friends at war with this guy named Brooks and his friends and each is trying to see who can bad mouth the other more. Am I right?

The people who hate Rees make issue of where Rees works, went to school, the number of wives and children he has and other matters. Since none of these matters are real issues in local politics and DC voters have in the past elected ex-convicts, wife beaters and drug addicts, I doubt anybody other than a few really care but will judge this man on the policies he wishes to pursue.

The people who hate Brooks make issue of his lack of experience in life, his cuddling up to wealthy gays for political contributions and a few other matters. Again since this is DC, nobody is really going to care and will judge this man also on the policies he wishes to pursue.

Now let us take it to the next level and that is, what are these two really doing and saying?

Both are already out on the campaign trail but this guy Rees seems to have a leg up as he has been out longer and has covered more territory that this guy Brooks.

Both have presented their stance on issues and what they want to do. In this respect, this guy Rees is clearly more detailed on what he wants to do than is this guy Brooks.

Now let us throw in a known fact. That fact is as it concerns DC political races since the 1970 s, once a person has run for political office and did not win on their first outting but run again, the stats show that they usually perform worse the second time out. This fact if it holds up in the 2006 races says that this guy Brooks will not win and perform worse than his first time out.

This leaves us with this guy Rees. In my opinion, he has a better shot of winning than this guy Brooks but only if he can muster up the ability to reach more voters and more often that the other candidates running.

I will trust that the people on this message board supporting both guys will disagree with me and come with their same old arguments why their man is better and the other is a royal jerk. Guess what, I do not want to hear it as the voters will not care but see any attack on either of these guys as not being credible but coming from loyalists of the candidate.

I have never characterized my political leanings, but to call this a democrat versus democrat "bashing" would be false.

Further, as far as I know, Candidate Brooks has never posted on this forum. Further, none of the others posting here are Brooks supporters, know the guy, or have anything to do with him.

Candidate Rees has made numerous claims about his prefoessional and personal background. To date, none of them have turned out to be true.

Given the massive amount of anti-gay rhetoric at the hands of Mr. Rees and "his supporters", I am surprised that you, "Gay Republican" would think he is the better candidate.

Hey look everyone. Another first time DCpages user, who also uses the phrase "this guy rees" habitually, and immediately repeats Rees' own familiar rants about "wealthy gays" and Rees "covering more territory" and quotes Rees' favored "statistics" about local political history.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pretend this isn't Rees again. It's utterly ridiculous.

I'm simply not going to engage this latest persona. See my responses to all the previous ones as they'll all apply here.

Get your spotlight fetish met somewhere else, little fella.

PS: What BFrank said. No one but you ever mentions Brooks. Please provide a link to any post in which anyone here claims to be

a Brooks supporter. This whole Brooks Vs. Rees "debate" is completely fictional. It's all Rees badmouthing Brooks, and the rest of

calling you on your voluminous BS.

Oh!! But it is true BFrank, it is Democrat vs. Democrat bashing, and it's rather nasty.

Your posts as well as others in here more than prove it.

As a Republican myself I am getting a taste "for a lack of a better term" the strategy that your side "Democrats" WILL be employing for the next round of Elections= Negativity with out any Solutions.

Human has once again completely missed the point. One might say willingly so.

I'm no Democrat, dude. If you're going to jump in here, you really should do more research. Go back several months.

Read critically. CLICK ON THE LINKS provided. It's a lot of work, but without knowledge, opinion is without value.

I would have expected a fellow non-Democrat to appreciate the importance of character, truthfulness and

honor in potential public servants, and the value of an informed electorate.

The truth about Rees is going to be revealed very soon, and to appear to have been his supporter will

prove to be personally embarassing.

My point of view as a 67 year old man is, voters in DC do not take seriously what they see on list servers.

What I am speaking of is what voters will or will not do and that is, they will ignore the list servers and vote based upon the platform of a candidate.

Both the candidates at issue are very well known and neither of them are anti-gay and thus I suspect voters will see this as an act by someone out to injure Rees. Where were you living in 1990? If in DC then surely you would remember the bitter case in the news where Rees battled it out with Daro Realty over their discriminating against gays in housing. Thus people who know Rees will never believe any claim he is anti-gay.

People who know Rees know he would not misrepresent himself. Have you ever gone to his job to see if he actually works where he says he does? I have. On the other end, Brooks has lied about having a sucessful internet business but the truth there is, he was creating websites for others while living at home with his parents and folded that business due to its failure. Yet, who cares about that? I do not.

How old are you? I would say that 70% of the voters in our ward are 50 and up and they are not about to hand a young guy with little experience the job of councilman.

All I have said is, Rees has a far better shot of winning than Brooks but I did not say I think he will be the winner.

After reading all that I have today, it is clear many of you did a very lousy job of investigating facts and really went too far in your efforts to bad mouth.

The private lives of the candidates is taboo in modern day politics and when all of you start making issue of it you turn people off like me and that is why maybe others might think you are taking sides.

Everybody needs to attack the issues and the weakness in this respect of each candidate.

Truthseeker seems to want to feel important and (s)he is not.

Truthseeker is a gossip monger at best and I fail to see a single posting from Truthseeker that has ever attacked any candidate based upon any flaw on a position taken.

No, Truthseeker is incapable of attacking the candidates on the issues so (s)he resorts to the nastiest of nasty and that is, attacking people on a personal level which is typical of a mentally deficient person.

Maybe somebody should expose the real Truthseeker who is living in a fantasy world.

Human,

Where have I ever made any pronouncements about any issues that would lead you to believe I am a democrat?

I have plenty of ideas for improving the conditions in DC. Many of them are ones that you, as a self-proclaimed republican, would embrace.

However, I am not the candidate here. Mr. Rees is. However he has made nary a statement in this forum about any political proposals or solutions. Everything from him in this forum has been about lies about himself and lies about his opponents.

I am simply trying to get some honesty about this candidate, yet all I ever get is more "multiple alias" postings.

I have seen his postion statements, if you can call them that, at DCWatch. I have seen postings on DCist, but the position statements there are not backed up with any facts and appear to be more incoherent ramblings.

On DC Watch, for example, there is a posting about Law and the balance of power,

http://www.dcwatch.com/election2006/rees02.htm

THE BALANCE OF POWER BETWEEN THE EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE AND JUDICIAL BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT

In the District of Columbia more than anywhere else in the USA, the judicial branch of government has run rampant, unchecked and the balance is way out of kilt and it is time to push back the judicial branch before it controls everything.

EVER NOTICE….That the only people who ever praise the so called good works of judges are judges but nobody else thinks so?

I love these self-righteous over paid angels of Lucifer as they puff up their Résumé as having graduated magna ejaculate laude from a top notch law school, member of some great society, God fearing, champion of some great cause but at the same time can’t explain why judges in America now have one the highest rates of divorce and acts of adultery, substance abuse and mental illness of any profession, and at the same time, they know how messed up they are that they create laws that prevents John Q. Public from suing or removing them and rally behind any and all efforts to quash anyone who dares to challenge them by setting that person up for a fall.

Never forget, it was a panel of judges, the most educated in the laws of God and man’s laws that sentenced Jesus to death out of sheer vindictiveness because he just didn’t want to go along with the program.

To show how messed up DC judges are, I know six of them who have children you can find at DuPont Circle high on drugs often because they were too busy climbing up that pedestal that they had no time to raise their children correctly and at one time, I had to pick up off the side walk one of these judges’ kids, call to his mother (DC Superior Court Judge) to arrange to get him before the U S Park Police was going to lock him up and waited there until she and her lawyer husband arrived to haul him off.

The sad truth is, too many judges in DC are psychologically messed up, have messed up marriages and families and that is all because they have been too busy alienating themselves from most of us, climbing up that delusional pedestal of greatness and spending too much time figuring out ways of screwing over the little guy while planning out new ways as to how John Q. Public should kiss their ass.

I believe that a condition of judgeship in DC after appointment is that yearly each judge much undergo an extensive psychological evaluation with the prospect of suspension with pay if it is determine that the judge shows signs of depression, stress, substance abuse, extensive family problems and etcetera.

I also believe that no judge to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia should serve more than one eight year term, no re-appointment possibility and that the Commission on Disability and Tenure should be revamped as it has been way too weak and forgiving of judicial abuses.

I am not against our judges but they have to start being more realistic and treat John Q. Public better than they do as they are often no better than the people they pass judgment upon.

Right now, I could go to the Washington Post, name six DC Superior Court judges who have children hooked on drugs, judges who live a double life but very covertly and that would make a heck of a good story with the title “Falling From The Pedestal”. Add to this a DC Superior Court judge who was arrested for beating his own wife and others who did the dumbest things most of us missed in the papers or it was suppressed as a favor from you and me learning about.

I think in DC, there are many who know already what I do but sit on it out of fear of facing the wrath of the judges if they open their mouths.

Yet, what I say cannot detract from the fact that half of the judges are good people who really try hard to do right and treat John Q. Public with the utmost respect but it is the other half, all of us should be concerned with because dealing with them is like going under the knife for surgery with a surgeon under the influence.

Today our judges sit in judgment of us and whether or not we are fit for a wide variety of things in life but maybe the time has come where the voters have a tool, where we can sit in judgment of them as they are servants of the people and when we see that they need to be removed and forced into treatment or counseling, the task should not be insurmountable and the legal industry not be allowed to encase itself in this unbreakable shell it has put itself in.

In sum, probably 95% of our judges would not agree with me but 95% of the people not in the legal field would and when we as voters talk about the poor services we are getting as taxpayers, let’s not ignore the garbage we get tossed from the judicial branch too.

Bfrank you clearly have a bias toward this man that clouds your judgment.

I have to agree with Rees based upon what you posted. Rees is merely saying that judges need to be more human and accept the fact that they are no better than those they often judge.

So why do you call this incoherent rambling? It is very coherent!

Furthermore, I would venture to say that a good percentage of the people out there might agree with Rees.

To me Bfrank, this is a matter of opinion and does not reflect anything other than an opinion on your part, my part and that is what politics is all about; namely, we will never always agree on some issues.

I hold no biases toward any of the candidates as I cannot vote for them.

As for DCist, I would not read it as it is geared more for people on the far far left.
