Rising Gas Prices Starting Drain My Wallet

Recommended Posts

Guest LAW

Rising gas prices are really starting to drain my wallet. So I am starting a new topic for Washingtonians to find the stations that are selling gas at the lowest prices.

In the District of Columbia, gas prices have continuously have been among the most expensive in the nation. In Maryland, prices recently rose to second highest in the nation. In each of these jurisdictions, we have heard the industry’s explanations and they don’t measure up, and in some instances appear almost comically contradictory.

DC Attorney General Robert J. Spagnoletti is urging residents to prepare for a rise in gasoline prices in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Although the disruption in gasoline supplies caused by Hurricane Katrina may justify a rise in local gasoline prices, Mr. Spagnoletti said, “Consumers should be on the look out. Some gasoline sellers may be tempted to take unconscionable advantage of consumers or reach illegal agreements to raise prices. Residents can help themselves by doing some comparison shopping before filling up their tanks.”

Before paying at the pump, visit several gas stations or check prices online. Reported prices of gasoline at stations in D.C. are listed at WashingtonDCGasPrices. The prices shown on the website are based on information submitted by consumers.

A boycott of the oil companies is not feasible due to Americans' dependance upon cars and other moterized forms of transportation. However, if we do not buy gas on Sundays, the oil companies will have a surplus and will be forced to lower their prices to get rid of it!

I cannot afford to drive to my work in DC anymore. I am going to have to find a new job near my home in Gaithersburg.
