D.c. Metro Rail From Springfield

I'm starting a new job next week and I live in Fredericksburg, VA. I therefore plan on driving to the Franconia/Springfield Metro station and taking the train to Federal Triangle. I'm curious as to the volume of both the parking lot at the station and the amount of people that ride the metro to and from there. Is the station filled with crowds and you have to wait a long time to get on the train in both the morning and evening? I don't have to ride it early, say 9am, but will be climbing on at Fed Triangle at around 5pm. What is it like? I hope its not too bad.

Thanks!

I'm scared. I don't have to show up for work until 10am. Is the metro still crowded after 9am? Where do I park if the lot at Franconia/Springfield is full? This is all very intimidating.
