PUBLICATIONS MANAGER (Washington, DC Office)

 

Primary Responsibilities

The publications manager will be responsible for managing several publications projects primarily in the fields of K-12 education, including student health, school safety, and student service. The publications manager will also be responsible for coordinating delivery of publication support services to numerous other projects, ensuring delivery of high quality services to our clients, and managing the publications team. The manager will manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, customer service oriented environment, requiring a mix of management and “hands-on” activities. The manager will also supervise the publications team of three staff, implement quality assurance plans, and contribute to new business development activities. The manager will report to the Vice President. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Manage four to six publications projects per year, ensuring thorough, effective, and efficient delivery of services to clients

• Manage delivery of publications support services to projects within the ESS Group by coordinating and scheduling editing, proofreading, graphics and/or production managements support for projects;

• Coordinate editorial, graphics and programming support to project-related Web sites

• Develop and implement dissemination plans for publications to ensure that they reach the appropriate target audiences

• Manage project budgets and individual task budgets, forecast expenses on a quarterly and monthly basis; review and reconcile monthly expenditures; track actual expenses and compare to projections; update Vice President monthly on budget status; and propose reallocations as needed

• Recruit, train, motivate, evaluate, and retain talented personnel to support the work of the Education and Student Service Group; Supervise and effectively utilize the skills and abilities of assigned team members; Evaluate performance of staff members, providing frequent feedback, documenting performance, and conducting required formal reviews according to company policies

• Work with the Vice President to develop and pursue strategy of growth related to the Group’s goals, priorities, areas of expertise and experience, and procurement vehicles;

• Maintain and expand existing client relationships

• Manage preparation of new business proposals by serving as proposal manager

 

PUBLICATIONS MANAGER (Washington, DC Office)

 

 

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in Communications, English, or related field

• Minimum 5-7 years progressively responsible professional experience in publications development, including writing, editing, and managing production. Background must include project management experience as well as supervisory experience.

• Passionate commitment to improving the quality of education for all students.

• Demonstrable experience with creative approaches to developing and producing publications.

• Management experience that includes at least one large national publication project.

• Ability to operate comfortably at a management level with executive staff, clients, representatives of the education field, and all levels of staff

• Excellent project management, customer service, organizational, written & oral communication skills
