-----Moving Mountains

It has been asked, what miracle was not given to Mohammad like what were given to the prophets before him.

Quran is the miracle. As scientific discoveries being made, as knowledge is expanded, the people will come to know and questions will be asked, how could Quran knows about this when the discoveries is only been made recently………..It Is a Miracle.

quran 27:89

87. And (remember) the Day on which the Trumpet will be blown and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth, will be terrified except him whom Allah will (exempt). And all shall come to Him humbled.

88. And you will see the mountains and think them solid, but they shall pass away as the passing away of the clouds. The Work of Allah, Who perfected all things, verily! He is Well-Acquainted with what you do.

89. Whoever brings a good deed (i.e. Belief in the Oneness of Allah along with every deed of righteousness), will have better than its worth, and they will be safe from the terror on that Day.

Rather than literally comparing the motion of the earth to that of other heavenly bodies, the Quran makes the following statement:

The mountains that you see, you think they are stationary while they are constantly floating like the floating of clouds. Such is the work of Allah Who made everything firm and strong…

If the mountains are declared to be in constant motion, then the only logical inference to be drawn from this would be that the earth is also rotating along with them. But thanks to the masterly language of the Quran this observation went unnoticed. They had the impression, shared with the rest of mankind, that the earth was stationary and it was this false impression that was not obtrusively challenged. If they had read with care the end of the same verse they would have been left with no room for any misunderstanding. It ends with a lasting tribute to the creative faculty of God, Who has created all things with such firmness that they cannot be dislodged. Anything which cannot be dislodged can never be catapulted out of the earth, to fly alone, leaving the earth behind.

The Qur'an draws attention to a very important geological function of mountains:

We placed firmly embedded mountains on the earth, so it would not move under them… (Qur'an, 21:31)

The verse states that mountains perform the function of preventing shocks in the Earth. This fact was not known by anyone at the time the Qur'an was revealed. It was, in fact, brought to light only recently, as a result of the findings of modern geological research.

Formerly, it was thought that mountains were merely protrusions rising above the surface of the Earth. However, scientists realised that this was not actually the case, and that those parts known as the mountain root extended down as far as 10-15 times their own height. With these features, mountains play a similar role to a nail or peg firmly holding down a tent. For example, Mount Everest, the summit of which stands approximately 9 km above the surface of the Earth, has a root deeper than 125 km.24

I am not sure I understand your statement.

Volcanoes are formed when a plate is pushed below another plate, or at a mid-ocean ridge or hotspot.

Fold mountains occur when two plates collide: shortening occurs along thrust faults and the crust is overthickened.

Block mountains are caused by faults in the crust: a seam where rocks can move past each other. When rocks on one side of a fault rise relative to the other, it can form a mountain.

Recently, a team of researchers led by scientists from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore discovered that massive earthquakes in the range of 8 to 8.5 magnitudes on the Richter scale have left clear ground scars in the central Himalayas.

Based on the study published recently in Nature Geosciences, two great earthquakes (one in 1255 and another in 1934) ruptured the surface of the earth in the Himalayas.

The Continental Plates are constantly building and tearing down mountains. Erosion is a factor also.

I think it is important for those of faith to put their trust in the Lord to get them through it.

Psalms 45

46:1 God is our strong refuge;

he is truly our helper in times of trouble.

46:2 For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes,

and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea,

46:3 when its waves crash and foam,

and the mountains shake before the surging sea.

Luke 6

6:47 “Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like:

6:48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.

6:49 But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against that house, it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”

In a scientific text, the structure of mountains is described as follows:

Where continents are thicker, as in mountain ranges, the crust sinks deeper into the mantle.25

Professor Siaveda, a world-renowned underwater geologist, made the following comment in reference to the way that mountains have root-like stalks attaching them to the surface:

The fundamental difference between continental mountains and the oceanic mountains lies in its material... But the common denominator on both mountains are that they have roots to support the mountains. In the case of continental mountains, light-low density material from the mountain is extended down into the earth as a root. In the case of oceanic mountains, there is also light material supporting the mountain as a root... Therefore, the function of the roots are to support the mountains according to the law of Archimedes.26

Furthermore, a book titled Earth, by Dr. Frank Press, former president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, which is still used as a text book in a great many universities, states that mountains are like stakes, and are buried deep under the surface of the Earth.27

In other verses, this role of the mountains is pointed out by a comparison with "pegs":

Have We not made the earth as a bed and the mountains its pegs? (Qur'an, 78:6-7)

In another verse it is revealed that Allah "made the mountains firm." (Qur'an, 79:32) The word "arsaha" in this verse means "was made rooted, was fixed, was nailed to the earth." Similarly, mountains extend to the surface layer joining lines on and below the surface, and nail these together. By fixing the Earth's crust they prevent any sliding over the magma layer or amongst the layers themselves. In short, mountains can be compared to nails holding strips of wood together. The fixing effect of mountains is known as isostasy in scientific literature. Isostasy is the state of equilibrium between the upward force created by the mantle layer and the downward force created by the Earth's crust. As mountains lose mass due to erosion, soil loss or melting of glaciers, they can gain mass from the formation of glaciers, volcanic explosions or soil formation. Therefore, as mountains grow lighter they are pressed upwards by the raising force implemented by the liquids. Alternatively, as they grow heavier they are pressed into the mantle by the force of gravity. Equilibrium between these two forces is established by isostasy. This balancing property of mountains is described in these terms in a scientific source:

G.B Airy in 1855 suggested that the crust of the earth could be likened to rafts of timber floating on water. Thick pieces of timber float higher above the water surface than thin pieces and similarly thick sections of the earth's crust will float on a liquid or plastic substratum of greater density. Airy was suggesting that mountains have a deep root of lower density rock which the plains lack. Four years after Airy published his work, J.H Pratt offered an alternative hypothesis... By this hypothesis rock columns below mountains must have a lower density, because of their greater length, than shorter rock columns beneath plains. Both Airy and Pratt's hypothesis imply that surface irregularities are balanced by differences in density of rocks below the major features (mountains and plains) of the crust. This state of BALANCE is described as the concept of ISOSTASY.28

Today, we know that the rocky external layer of the Earth's surface is riven by deep faults and split into plates swimming above the molten lava. Since the Earth revolves very quickly around its own axis, were it not for the fixing effect of the mountains, these plaques would shift. In such an event, soil would not collect on the Earth's surface, water would not accumulate in the soil, no plants could grow, and no roads or houses could be built. In short, life on Earth would be impossible. Through the mercy of Allah, however, mountains act like nails, and to a large extent, prevent movement in the Earth's surface.

We subjected the mountains to glorify [Allah] with him in the

evening and at sunrise.

(Qur’an, 38:18)

He cast firmly embedded mountains on the earth so it would not move under you, and rivers and pathways so that hopefully

you would be guided.

(Qur’an, 16:15)

This vital role of mountains, which has been discovered by modern geological and seismic research, was revealed in the Qur'an centuries ago as an example of the supreme wisdom in Allah's creation.

… [He] cast firmly embedded mountains on the earth so that it would not move under you… (Qur'an, 31:10)

I do like this conversation. But, I am only a student of understanding complex variables. But, I do know that our Earth's crust forms in part by the coming together of island arcs including granite and metamorphic fold belts. It is understood that these fold belts are kept together partly by the using up of the mantle below the crust, which makes a mantle on which the crust tectonic plates float at an elevation dependent on their thickness and density. Thus, the higher the mountain the lower its density roots.

It is true that the primary or (pressure) waves are what you say dispersed in areas of lower density. We also know that earthquakes at depths greater than 60 km below the surface occur at the Himalayan collision zone where the Indian Plate underthrusts the Himalayan mountains and the southern Tibetan Plateau. We also know that the viscoelastic relaxation of the mantle causes earthquakes as well.

Neither mountains nor isostasy play a role to "balance" the Earth's crust, it is done by mineral reorganizations from high temperature and pressure. It is probable that the lower crust is made up of dry granulite, responsible for its seismogenic behaviour and strength as manifested by its relatively large effective elastic thickness. In time the sub-crustal erosion will replace this shield with a growing magma layer and remove the stability of the Indian shield. As the density changes, so does the the effects of pressure waves.

Also, in time the forces of wind and rain will erode mountains down. I have the opportunity to see the result of erosion, by hiking the ancient Appalachian mountains near my home. We are learning that the ramifications of our pursuit of technology such as weight water dams, fraking, and drilling are changing the pressure balance and causing stress on old fault lines.

It is amazing to read the lament of man tested by God thousands of years ago.

Job 14

14:13 “O that you would hide me in Sheol,

and conceal me till your anger has passed!

O that you would set me a time

and then remember me!

14:14 If a man dies, will he live again?

All the days of my hard service I will wait

until my release comes.

14:15 You will call and I – I will answer you;

you will long for the creature you have made.

14:16 “Surely now you count my steps;

then you would not mark my sin.

14:17 My offenses would be sealed up in a bag;

you would cover over my sin.

14:18 But as a mountain falls away and crumbles,

and as a rock will be removed from its place,

14:19 as water wears away stones,

and torrents wash away the soil,

so you destroy man’s hope.

14:20 You overpower him once for all,

and he departs;

you change his appearance

and send him away.

14:21 If his sons are honored,

he does not know it;

if they are brought low,

he does not see it.

14:22 Only his flesh has pain for himself,

and he mourns for himself.”

Sometimes change is hard to see in the here and now.

I find it interesting in this article the first sentence the author writes is a quote from Psalms that I gave above. Thank you for pointing that out. It definitely agrees with what I said about erosion. I guess he was not aware that there was a quote from Quran as well on this subject.

I find it interesting the German scientist found out that our earth's crust is 5 millimeter thinner. This must be on average. But, I do understand how this is related to Quran?

I think modern geologist would love reasoning of a righteous man thousands of years ago found in the passage of Job 38. It is mind blowing.

38:4 Where were you

when I laid the foundation of the earth?

Tell me, if you possess understanding!

or who stretched a measuring line across it?

I think we also can agree that God's works are clearly visible.

Romans 1

1:17 For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, “The righteous by faith will live.”

1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people 39 who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness,

1:19 because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

1:20 For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.

“Life’s greatest tragedy is to lose God and not to miss him.”

--F.W. Norwood

Atheists might assert that they don’t acknowledge the existence of God, but the view of some Christians and all Muslims is that at some level even the confirmed Atheist affirms God’s presence. The innate but neglected awareness of God typically surfaces in Atheist consciousness only in times of severe stress, as exemplified by the World War II quote “There are no Atheists in a fox-hole.”[1]

Undeniably there are times -- whether during the agonizing days of a lingering illness, the seemingly eternal moments of a violent and humiliating mugging, or the split second of anticipating the impact of an imminent car crash -- when all mankind recognize the reality of human fragility and the lack of human control over destiny. Who does a person beseech for help in such circumstances other than The Creator? Such moments of desperation should remind every person, from the religious scholar to the professed Atheist, of the dependence of mankind upon a reality far greater than our own meager human selves. A reality far greater in knowledge, power, will, majesty and glory.

In such moments of distress, when all human efforts have failed and no element of material existence can be foreseen to provide comfort or rescue, Whom else will a person instinctively call upon? In such moments of trial, how many stress-induced appeals are made to God, complete with promises of lifelong fidelity? Yet, how few are kept?

No doubt, the day of greatest affliction will be the Day of Judgement, and a person would be unfortunate to be in the position of acknowledging the existence of God for the first time on that day. The English poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, spoke of the irony of the distressed human appeal in The Cry of the Human:

“And lips say “God be pitiful,”

Who ne’er said, “God be praised.”

The thoughtful Atheist, full of skepticism but fearful of the possibility of the existence of God and a Day of Judgement, may wish to consider the ‘prayer of the skeptic,’ as follows:

“O Lord--if there is a Lord,

Save my soul--if I have a soul.”[2]

In the face of skepticism blocking belief, how can a person go wrong with the above prayer? Should Atheists remain upon disbelief, they will be no worse off than before; should belief follow a sincere appeal, Thomas Jefferson had the following to say:

“If you find reason to believe there is a God, a consciousness that you are acting under His eye, and that He approves you, will be a vast additional incitement; if that there be a future state, the hope of a happy existence in that increases the appetite to deserve it…”[3]

The suggestion can be made that if an individual doesn’t see the evidence of God in the magnificence of His creation, they would be well advised to take another look. As Francis Bacon is noted to have commented, “I had rather believe all the fables in the legend, and the Talmud, and the alcoran (i.e. the Quran), than that this universal frame is without a mind.”[4] He went on to comment, “God never wrought miracle to convince atheism, because his ordinary works convince it.”[5] Worthy of contemplation is the fact that even the lowest elements of God’s creation, though perhaps ordinary works in His terms, are miracles in ours. Take the example of as tiny an animal as a spider. Does anybody really believe that such an extraordinarily intricate creature evolved from primordial soup? Just one of these little miracles can produce up to seven different kinds of silk, some as thin as the wavelength of visible light, but stronger than steel. Silks range from the elastic, sticky strands for entrapment to the non-adhesive drag-lines and frame threads, to the silk for wrapping prey, making the egg sac, etc. The spider can, on demand, not only manufacture its personal choice of the seven silks, but reabsorb, breakdown and remanufacture--self-recycling from the component elements. And this is only one small facet of the miracle of the spider.

And yet, mankind elevates itself to the heights of arrogance. A moment’s reflection should incline human hearts to humility. Look at a building and a person thinks of the architect, at a sculpture and a person instantly comprehends an artist. But examine the elegant intricacies of creation, from the complexity and balance of nuclear particle physics to the uncharted vastness of space, and a person conceives of…nothing? Surrounded by a world of synchronous complexities, we as mankind cannot even assemble the wing of a gnat. And yet the entire World and all the Universe exists in a state of perfect orchestration as a product of random accidents which molded cosmic chaos into balanced perfection? Some vote chance, others, creation.

A book entitled Earth is a basic reference textbook in many universities around the world. One of its two authors is Professor Emeritus Frank Press. He was the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and for 12 years was the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC. His book says that mountains have underlying roots.[1] These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg

This is how the Quran has described mountains. God has said in the Quran:

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (Quran 78:6-7)

Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground (see figure 3) and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground.[2] So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg,’ since most of a properly set peg is hidden under the surface of the ground. The history of science tells us that the theory of mountains having deep roots was introduced only in the latter half of the nineteenth century.[3]

Mountains also play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth.[4] They hinder the shaking of the earth. God has said in the Quran:

“And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you...” (Quran 16:15)

Likewise, the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as stabilizers for the earth. This knowledge about the role of mountains as stabilizers for the earth has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960’s.[5]

Could anyone during the time of the Prophet Muhammad have known of the true shape of mountains? Could anyone imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert? A large number of books of geology, when discussing mountains, only describe that part which is above the surface of the earth. This is because these books were not written by specialists in geology. However, modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Quranic verses.

Mountains come and go. You cannot argue against this point.

The crust floats on top of the mantle. You cannot argue this point.

The peg you cite is based upon density. You cannot argue this point.

Leonardo da Vincis considered how our Earth might respond to shifts in loads over its surface.

Before Mohammed an Indian mathematician Aryabhata described the earth as being spherical and that it rotates on its axis from west to east. He also estimated the circumference of Earth, with an accuracy of 1%. And he described the radii of the orbits of the planets in terms of the Earth-Sun distance as essentially their periods of rotation around the Sun. If that was not enough Aryabhata also gave the correct explanation of lunar and solar eclipses and that the Moon shines by reflecting sunlight. I would suppose that was the Einstein of his time.

The point is God can do anything and is part of everything. And Science can never bury the existence of God.

If you are looking for scientific truth in Religion, the Institution for Creation Research is a good start.

Psalms 14

14:1 Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.”

They sin and commit evil deeds;

none of them does what is right.

This passage from Paul makes me think about the true origin of the universe.

Hebrews 10

11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

11:2 For by it the people of old received God’s commendation.

11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were set in order at God’s command, so that the visible has its origin in the invisible.

Are there scientific truths in the Bible? We hear all the time that science and the Bible should be kept separate, but should it really be that way? The truth is that even though the Bible is not a scientific text book and therefore should not be read as one, the Bible still is completely compatible with what we find in science.

Some of the Basics:

One Race of people: The Human Race

(Genesis 3:20)

The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

(Acts 17:26)

And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face ot the earth,..

(Science confirms that all humans are of the same 'race' and all have the same basic skin color. We have a pigment called melanin and our apparent skin differences are actually just a varying shade of melanin.)

The spherical shape of the earth (Isaiah 40:22).

It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

The earth is suspended in nothing (Job. 26:7).

He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.

The stars are innumerable (Gen. 15:5).

And he brought him outside and said, Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them. ...

The existence of valleys in the seas (2 Sam. 22:16).

Then the channels of the sea were seen; the foundations of the world were laid bare, at the rebuke of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

The existence of springs and fountains in the sea (Gen.7:11; 8:2; Prov. 8:28).

when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep,

The existence of water paths (ocean currents) in the seas (Psalm 8:8).

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

The water cycle (Job. 26:8; 36:27-28; 37:16; 38:25-27; Ps. 135:7; Ecc. 1:6-7).

The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.

The fact that all living things reproduce after their own kind (Gen. 1:21; 6:19).

So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

The nature of health, sanitation, and sickness (Gen.17:9-14; Lev. 12-14).

{I will let you look this passage up on your own, it is a little longer.}

The concept of entropy, that energy is running down (Psalm 102:26).

They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,

I have studied him (Muhammad PBUH) - the wonderful man and in my opinion for from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much needed peace and happiness. - George Benard Shaw

I'm an atheist and I thank God for it. - George Benard Shaw

On a side note. Do you actually look at the videos you post?

Ahmed Deedat must have been desperate to use an obscure Atheist Socialist to prove his point that the Bible I believe in is poison would be comedic if I did not consider it on the line of blasphemy. But, that is for our God to decide.

Then Deedat makes a claim that Herbert W. Armstrong stated that that the Bible is xrated. First, Armstrong and the truth magazine is not well known. Second here is the real statement his group actually made:

This week we begin a perilous journey through the book of Numbers, covering the introduction and lessons 1-7, including Numbers 1:1 through 9:14. The book of Numbers would not by any stretch of the imagination be described as a book of peace and comfort. It is usually glossed over in Sunday school curricula for young children. If it were accurately made into a movie, it would be X-rated for graphic violence, sexual content, nudity and strong language. Its special effects would be jaw-dropping, to say nothing of its budget, with a cast of millions of people.

More to the point, the grim stories told in the book of Numbers are integral parts of the Bible -- essential elements in the great theological story arc that leads to the full revelation of God's grace in the Person of Jesus. Numbers paves the way for what is to come in the future, and serves as a stark illustration of why the new covenant is infinitely better than the old!

I am sorry, but is an is a slightly above average debater with excellent passion to exult himself above the audience.

I have not listened to all his works, but I waiting for him to directly mock the words of God, like did saying Jesus lost to Mohammed in a popularity contest. I am sure Isa loved that statement.

I can find the same meaningless dirt that comes in favor Jesus Christ. Faith in God and his chosen are not part of a popularity contest.

Ennin you know this is true.

It is a travesty to see people of faith bicker in the eyes of atheist who look at Religion as just behavior modification for the masses. An atheist looks at differences in faith as the source of all wars. In reality, violence is about control of earthly possessions.

You want to see moving mountains.

This is what people like myself hope to see.
