"Home Again" Event Rescheduled

(Washington, D.C.) - The District's Home Again program will be rescheduling the celebration of the renovation and sale of its first home. The event was originally scheduled for Thursday, November 6. You will be notified when a new date is available.

Created in January 2002, Home Again redevelops abandoned property into single-family, owner occupied housing. Through Home Again, the District gains site control through friendly sales, foreclosure for delinquent taxes and eminent domain, if owners choose to not maintain their properties. Once acquired, properties are bundled and sold to prequalified developers for rehabilitation. Visit www.dcbiz.dc.gov.

As a result of Home Again:

220 properties have been rehabilitated by their owners;

and 79 properties have been offered to prequalified developers through competitive bidding (51 of the current 70 planned units are affordable housing).

Home Again has also helped to reduce the number of vacant properties from 3,900 in 1999 to 2,700 in 2003.
