White Marlin Open set to return August 2-6

The White Marlin Open, the world’s largest billfish tournament, will hold its 37th annual event August 2-6, in Ocean City, Maryland. Over 300 boats and 2,500 anglers are expected to compete for over $2 million in prize money. Anglers participating in the White Marlin Open fish for white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, dolphin, wahoo and shark, selecting three out of five days to compete.

Some highlights from last year’s event include a 93.5-pound winning white marlin worth over $900,000 and a huge state-record blue marlin that weighed a whopping 1,062 pounds.

Registration fee is $1,100 per boat with no limit on the number of anglers allowed. Additional skill levels are offered and range from $50 to $5,000. A new “Winner Take All Tuna” category has been added for this year’s event.

Weigh-ins take place nightly from 4-9 p.m. at Harbour Island Marina on 14th Street and the bay in Ocean City.
