Business Group Business Development & Planning Director

The Business Development and Planning (BD&P) Manager will develop and lead strategic and tactical business development activities to grow market share in a full suite of transportation solutions in the Northeast Transportation (NET) Region.

 

The BD&P Manager is responsible for the organization and leadership of the regional business development (BD), sales and marketing team, developing regional BD talent (attracting, retaining, training and developing) to ensure an effective allocation of resources while achieving business plan goals. The BD&P role is designed to provide leadership and oversight to address client needs and marketplace conditions, while meeting the firm’s growth and performance expectations. The BD&P and the Regional Business Group Manager (RBGM) share accountability for sustaining growth and meeting business plan goals related to growth in Labor New Business In (LNBI) and Business Development (BD) efficiency.

 

The BD&P Manager is a member of the Functional Leadership Team (FLT) and reports directly to the RBGM with additional accountability to the global Transportation Business Group. The BD&P Manager coordinates with the Operations Manager, Staff Planning Manager, Technology Manager in addition to the Design/Build Practice Manager within the regional business group leadership team. The BD&P Manager coordinates regional business development processes with BD&P Managers from other business groups within the region and other Transportation BD&P Managers across regions. The BD&P Manager also coordinates development and assignment of regional and global sales managers.

 

 

Specific responsibilities include leadership in business development (marketing and sales) activities to achieve the followings strategic objectives:

- Grow market share in the Northeast Region

- Grow total business volume in the Northeast Region

- Manage the business development budget

- Financial performance (new business in at or above margin targets)

- Business development team performance and development

- Oversee the planning, positioning processes

- Participate on regional cross business group client service programs

- Participate in Transportation Business Group BD activities and programs.

 

 

KEY DUTIES:

• Make priority decisions on strategic value of opportunities, projects, and clients. Identify, authorize, an implement projects having firm wide strategic value to achieve targeted revenue goals.

• Overview and prioritize opportunities within the business group for effective and appropriate application of resources. This includes priorities between regions, client types, project types, between functions within the business group and between channels, initiatives, and events.

• Identify those prospects/projects with the highest potential near and long-term financial return and target our pursuit efforts in that direction.

• Through market analysis or other means, understand and communicate the size, scope, drivers and direction of the market.

• Identify, champion, and launch new ventures.

• Identify and assist in the implementation of strategic acquisitions. Establish and implement the image and message for the business group.

• Monitor the cost effectiveness of the overall program and develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement.

• Develop and implement the cost and pricing strategy for the business group.

• Meet or exceed annual NBI goals set by the President

• Facilitate the strategic planning process and lead the business group’s annual business planning

 

Please note the location for this position is open however, our preference would be in our Chantilly, Virginia, New York City, Philadelphia, or Chicago office.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science Degree in a Technical or Business Discipline. 15years of professional experience in a senior level business development position with a major Government Contractor.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability in winning complex transportation projects and in building client relationships.
