"BRINGING SERVICE BACK": DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA'S THOUSANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE ARE INVITED TO CHANGE THE DISTRICT ON NATIONAL & GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY - APRIL 20-22, 2007

Call to Service! Start planning your service and service-learning projects now for National and Global Youth Service Day - April 20-22, 2007! Youth across the District of Columbia and the world will join together in April to lead simultaneous community service projects for the 19th Annual National & Global Youth Service Day. On April 20-22, 2007, 20,000 young people across the district will address unmet community needs through service and service-learning projects addressing literacy, school violence, disaster relief, poverty, and urban decay. For more information about Washington DC's National and Global Youth Service Day and how to get involved, please go to www.serve.dc.gov.

DC's National & Global Youth Service Day is successful because of a strong coalition of community partners that coordinate youth-led service projects. Please join us for one of two upcoming N&GYSD planning forums, where you will receive an overview of the service weekend and learn more about grant opportunities and Serve DC's role. You will also be able to network with others who can be valuable service partners. Both meetings will start at 5:30pm and be held at One Judiciary Square, 441 4th St. NW, 11th floor (Metro stop: Red Line - Judiciary Square).

National & Global Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world, mobilizes young people to identify and address community needs through service, supports youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public about the role of youth as leaders and assets.

Serve DC strengthens the city's spirit of service and promotes service as an important solution to the daily challenges we face in our community. In addition to National & Global Youth Service Day, which takes place concurrently each April, Serve DC also hosts a variety of episodic volunteering events, the DC Citizen Corps initiative, and administers AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America grants.
