JOB TITLE: Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

LOCATION: Washington, DC

FLSA: Exempt



This position is responsible for maintaining financial records and all facets of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, the financial elements of the 403(B) plan. Provides monthly and annual accounting reports for management. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Finance. Assignments are routine in nature and are carried out in accordance with general work instructions and established accounting practices, procedures, and precedents.



Excellent attention to detail. Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, Power Point, Quickbooks Pro. Work well in a team environment, experience in a non-profit desired. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and 2+ years accounting experience in non-profit environment desired. Experience with electronic payroll services.



•Verify and input details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed to accounting software.

•Prepare invoices, checks, account statements, reports and other records and review for accuracy.

•Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements.

•Receive, record, and file all funding partner contracts and produce invoices as necessary.

•Receive, record, and file all community partner contracts and produce invoices as necessary.

•Coordinate and process payroll on bi-monthly basis using an outside payroll firm.

•Review and distribute W-2 forms.

•Calculate year end bonuses.

•Prepare correspondence regarding payroll information for unemployment, IRS, etc.

•Review payroll tax returns and other information both quarterly and annually.

•Calculate, review and transmit all funds pertaining to 403(B) plan.

•Close A/P on a monthly basis, review, corrects and distributes reports.

•Handle inquiries from vendors.

•Prepare and distribute 1099, 1098, 1096 and other related tax forms.

•Audit petty cash for reimbursement.

•Audit employee expenses and company credit card expenses to ensure compliance with corporate policy.
