The National Park Service (NPS), the National Park Foundation (NPF), and Discovery Communications Inc. (DCI), a Proud Partner of America's National Parks, announce the release of "For the People", the newest "ParkDoc" which will be shown throughout the National Parks in the Greater Washington area. The film honors and celebrates the nation's capital and the National Parks throughout the Washington, D.C., area that symbolize the strength and diversity of this great nation. "The National Parks in the Washington, DC area are among the most spectacular and fascinating places in the country," said Jim Maddy, president of the National Park Foundation. "Thanks to our friends at Discovery Communications, Park visitors can take away a greater understanding of, and appreciation for, these national treasures." The film is shot in high definition and surround sound and will welcome and educate the 36 million annual visitors to the region with a fresh, energetic experience of these historic landmarks and the history behind their creation. The release of the film coincides with National Park Week, April 18-24, which will be celebrated throughout the Nation's National Parks, and will include programming on the Travel Channel. From George Washington's arrival to the city, through the Civil War battles that took place at Manassas National Battlefield, and Antietam National Battle Field, the film highlights the cornerstones of our capital's remarkable history. It also celebrates the skyline of one of the world's great cities, from the Lincoln Memorial to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial; the two- mile stretch of the National Mall; the Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans and FDR Memorials, and the White House -- all part of the National Park System. Travel Channel premiere programs include Secrets of Zion and Bryce, Monday, April 19 at 8 PM (ET/PT); Best of the National Parks, Tuesday, April 20 at 8 PM (ET/PT) and The Colorado: River of Wonders, Thursday, April 22 at 8 PM (ET/PT).
