As a DC native I was truly blown away by the beauty and elegance of the Jefferson Memorial. I have made several visits to the Lincoln Memorial in the past few years, but have not made the slightly longer walk to the Jefferson. As I approached the Jefferson Memorial I soon realized the walk is well worth it. With walkways right on the Tidal Basin, any person would enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery of the surrounding area. Unlike the Lincoln, The Jefferson Memorial is not over-run with schools of tourists and children running up and down the stairs. I found myself much at ease reading the inner walls of the memorial and appreciating the statue of Jefferson himself. I enjoyed watching the paddle boaters in the basin and planes overhead landing in the nearby airport. Additionally the Jefferson Memorial offers a great view of the Washington Monument as it rises above the city. DC Native or not, The Jefferson Memorial is absolutely worth your time to check out. Whether you are looking to show respect to one of our nation's founding fathers, or just to capture some of D.C.'s beautiful scenery, I guarantee you will enjoy your time and remember this stop for a lifetime.
