“Do You Love Washington, DC?”

Today, May 25, 2004, was my first day of internship at DC Pages. com. My first experiences were to visit one of the many historical sites or museums located in Washington, DC and to take photographs that tell visitors to the site about the atmosphere of the museum. Since I wanted to know more about Washington, DC, the city where I live, I chose the City Museum.
The City Museum is all about the city of Washington, DC and aims at providing various perspectives of our Nation's Capitol. Honestly, my first impression of the museum was not so good because I thought it seemed too small to describe the whole history of the US capital. However, as I proceeded to look through the exhibits, I became to be fascinated by each of the displays that gave me vivid images and particular stories of the city. I especially liked the exhibits on the Washington Perspectives. They gave me lucid explanations of major events happed in the four periods, 1790- 1860, 1861- 1900, 1901- 1945, and since 1946 by utilizing voices and sounds of each of the displayed scenes. It was amazing because the exhibits really made me feel like I was in the past. In addition, I was also interested in the exhibit of Chinatown transition that tells main happenings since I was personally wondering how Chinese people are able to flourish everywhere in the world.
At the end of my visit to the museum, my impression had totally changed. I found myself absorbed in the wonderful resources that gave me a better understanding of my city. Therefore, I would like to strongly recommend visiting the City Museum, especially for those people who have just come to DC. International expatriates who have not had enough time to know the city where they live should also visit the City Museum. Fortunately, it does not take long time to look around the entire exhibition. You will love Washington, DC!
