PUBLICATIONS ASSISTANT (Washington, DC Office)
Primary Responsibilities
Will include providing editorial, production, administrative and graphics support to publications and web sites being developed within the Education and Student Service Group (ESS). The division administers several programs under grants and contracts from the U.S. Department of Education. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Assisting in the production of all articles for print and on-line editions, including research, fact-checking, drafting sections, proofreading, and implementing edits; Copyediting all materials to ensure error-free production
• Administering and maintaining a database(s) to track subscriber information
• Coordinating aspects of outreach and publicity activities
• Collecting up-to-date articles, books, reports, research studies, and other resources and marinating a resource library/files
• Contacting print vendors to obtain production quotes and establish production timelines in accordance with client deadlines
Qualifications
• BA/BS degree in Communications, English, or related field
• Minimum of 1 year previous work experience in copy-editing, proofreading, layout, Web development, etc. (preferably in a position involving significant publication)
• Demonstrated skills in proofreading, copyediting, and writing
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 2000
• Excellent organizational, critical thinking and verbal communication skills necessary
• Desktop publishing experience and or graphics experience preferred
