On Saturday, President-elect Obama, Vice President-elect Biden and their families will journey to Washington, DC by train, holding events that are free and open to the public along the way.

Beyonce, Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder are among the performers on stage Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial for the opening celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural. The event will be free and open to the public, kicking off what the Presidential Inaugural Committee calls "the most open and accessible Inauguration in history."

The concert, "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial," will be presented by HBO on Sunday, January 18, 7:00-9:00 pm ET/PT. HBO will televise the event on an open signal, working with all of its distributors to allow Americans across the country with access to cable, telcos or satellite television to join in the opening celebration for free.

Remember folks? LAYERED CLOTHING for when being out side "Big Time".
Better to go to these events warm then playing a little game of frost bitten toes or fingers. NO EVENT is worth that even if it is history making.

Add to that, that the Inauguration is the MOST EXPENSIVE in United States HISTORY.

I just put up some photos I took yesterday walking around the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Toilets can be seen everywhere. I am estimating that one out of every 90 portable toilets are for disabled people. As of Jan 11 there are no toilets on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Also, one of the police officers was telling me that that they are planning to shut down the bridges at mid night before the inauguration.

I just got this message from FEDEX

Presidential Inauguration 2009

Heightened security measures for Inauguration Day on January 20 will include extensive road closures and restricted access to many locations in Washington D.C. and surrounding areas, including some bridges and tunnels leading into and out of the Capitol.

FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Office are planning on operating these days; however, because of these security restrictions, there will be unavoidable service delays for customers within the area.

As more details become available, alternate shipping options will be posted on fedex.com that customers may want to consider during this period. Encourage customers to check fedex.com periodically for updates or call
1-800-GO-FEDEX for information.

Will any Metrorail stations be closed?

Due to security measures, the Archives-Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter Metrorail station on Metro’s Green and Yellow lines and the Smithsonian Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange lines will be closed all day on Inauguration Day.

I have also heard from Merchants that PIC is possibly closing Farrugut North metro station as well. WMATA will not confirm this.
