Great question Courney.

This weekend marks the beginning of DC Metro’s "spring break" from weekend track work between March 24 and April 13. Here are some suggestions for anyone planning to use Metrorail to check out the Cherry Blossoms:
  • On weekdays, try to avoid taking Metro during rush hour, especially between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Metro suggests using the

You mean to tell me that you don't have your own cherry blossom trees?

I went to see the Cherry Blossoms this week and am EXTREMELY DISAPPIONTED with the LACK OF PARKING. There are only a handful of LEGAL spots to park near the Tidal Basin. I spent an hour and change driving around (in circles) and had no luck. The next day I had to park ILLEGALLY by the Kennedy Center.

Why would the city of DC make it so hard for visitors and locals to get to see the Cherry trees? The Metro is THE ONLY WAY TO GO and it is still...

Metro is the only way to go. I went this morning and had no trouble but saw numerous drivers looking for parking. All you have to do people is take the Blue or Orange Link to the Smithsonian Station. From there it is only a one block walk to the Tidal Basin.

I hope Metro is ready. Last year I tried to drive down to the Jefferson Memorial and see the Cherry Blossoms and it took me an hour to find a parking spot that was a half mile away. Even the parking spots down by the paddle boats on the Tidal Basin were closed. The only parking was right along the edges of the National Mall.

Metro adds eight-car trains; prepares air conditioning

As Washington, D.C., welcomes the return of the Cherry Blossoms, Metro is preparing for large crowds by placing more eight-car trains in service, preparing air conditioning and curtailing weekend track maintenance and rehabilitation work to support the upcoming 2011 National Cherry Blossom Festival, which runs from March 26 to April 10.

Does anyone know the current outlook for using the DC Metro red line for the Cherry Blossoms this year? From I've seen lately, it doesn't look at all good. Am I wrong?
