ESTHER PRODUCTIONS, INC. 2006 SUMMER LITERARY SERIES

PRESENTS THREE ACCLAIMED AUTHORS

READING FROM THEIR WORKS

 

 

Poet and performance Artist Bomani Darel Armah, poet Patricia Biela, and fiction writer Donna Hemans will participate in Esther Productions, Inc.'s 2006 Summer Literary Series, a free workshop and reading series that targets underserved communities in Wards 2, 7, and 8 in Washington, D.C..

 

Bomani Darel Armah is featured on the album and first single/video from Mello-D & The Rados: “Cool Witchu”, which aired on BET’s Rap City and peaked at #3 on national college radio charts. He has scored independent films including BET’s Wrap-It-Up original film “Multitudes of Mercies”. He has appeared on WHUR 96.3, WPGC 95.5, WPFW 89.3, WMUC 88.1, .com and www.im4radio.com. He has performed at such venues as the Nuyorican Poet’s Café (NY, NY), The Black Cat (DC), Studio Theater (DC), Karibu Books (MD), Bohemian Cavern (DC), The Market Five Gallery (DC), and Tawes Theater (University of Maryland College Park). He is also an organizer and host of “Arts Under the Stars” at Sankofa Video & Books DC. Armah also has offered an eight-week poetry writing course for youths in Ward 8. The workshop was presented by Esther Productions, Inc. is partnership with Citygate at the Johenning Baptist Community Center.

 

Armah will perform his original works Sat, August 5 from 2-3pm at Francis A. Gregory Public Library, 3660 Alabama Avenue, SE.

 

Patricia Biela was a poetry venue review columnist for the Spring/Summer 2004 One Heart Publication – Holistic Journal. Her poems appear, Cracking Walnuts and Other Goodies edited by Arlene Carter-Pounds, Black Arts Quarterly, and the upcoming The Caribbean Writer.

 

Biela will read some of her poetry on Sat, August 12,2006 from 2-3pm at Francis A. Gregory Public Library, 3660 Alabama Avenue, SE.

 

Donna Hemans' River Woman was a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award in 2003 and co-winner of the 2003-4 Towson University Prize for Literature. She was named Best New Author for 2002 by Black Issues Book Review. She was the Spring 2004 Lannan Visiting Creative Writer in Residence at Georgetown University and is also an instructor at the Writer's Center in Bethesda.

 

Hemans will read Sun, August 13, 2006 from 6-7pm at The Emergence Community Arts Collective, 733 Euclid Street, NW.
