Your right, you have the right to say anything you want. I also have the right to say anything I want. I think using the 4th of July to promote Marijuana is idiotic and even unpatriotic. Its a bunch of people who probably don't really care about more than partying and getting high and taking advantage of the 4th of July.
Maybe next year NAMBLA will set up the "Molest In" on the 4th of July. You should organize with them on that. Hey at least the ACLU has got your back.

Well, Vincent, you do indeed have the right to your opinion, no matter how stupid it is (in MY opinion, of course). For your information, however, here is one person who campaigns for marijuana law reform who is well over 125 IQ, and a veteran. One of the things that I was protecting, when I volunteered for the USAF back in 1972, was the right to pursue happiness -- remember that phrase? -- in any way I like so long as it didn't harm others.

My smoking marijuana at home after a hard week's work does not affect you in any way. On what moral, or Constitutional, grounds do you defend busting into my home and throwing me into the pen for it?

You also said: "Maybe next year NAMBLA will set up the "Molest In" on the 4th of July." Are you so stupid that you can equate adults preying on children with adults smoking a weed? If so, you must be smoking something a lot more powerful than _I've_ ever seen!

When you're happy and content with yourself and your life you don't need pot to "relax" and have a good time. Then you can enjoy the 4th for what it's really all about. The success we're celebrating is due to the efforts and sacrifices of responsible, brave people, who were not in a cloud of "relaxation" and escaping reality.

I was in the hemp parade and it was too much fun. All I've wanted to do since I moved here was be in a parade and not that dream has been fulfilled. YES

You should come to the National Mall in the morning and meet all the performers. Now that is fun.

I am all for you guys smokin pot!!! It makes the white collar job market much less competitive, which is great!!!

But then again, I get stuck paying for pothead welfare, as most of you can't hold a job and a handful of you end up homeless. I guess that's why your group is mostly liberal, need to secure some kind of income, even if it is in the form of gov't handouts. Nevermind you're taking charity from the ones that really need it and deserve it, because it's all about you. Talk about being closed minded.

But at least you can hold something, albeit a useless loser jam band "demonstration" on what should be 4th of July family fun day. Maybe I'll buy a hotdog for a homeless guy that partied in your demonstration years ago. Then I can say I somewhat participated and contributed something meaningful to society at the same time!!!!!

On a serious note, how long does it take to get out after the fireworks? Should I plan on being in line for the metro at 1 AM?

America's National Independence Day Parade takes place annually on July 4th at 11:45 am in Washington, D.C., on Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street before a street audience of hundreds of thousands of spectators. The Parade consists of invited bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, VIP's, national dignitaries, and celebrity participants. The Parade is a major national event which seeks to draw the attention of Americans to the real meaning for the holiday. It is a patriotic, flag-waving, red white and blue celebration of America's birthday!

The Parade is co-hosted by the National Park Service and produced by Diversified Events, which is under contract to the National Park Service.

Participating bands are invited based on recommendations from each state's Governor's office. Other times these recommendations come from a state's music educators office or other music education organizations at the governor's request.

Representation from all parts of the United States is the goal of the Parade National Selection Committee. Bands must submit a video recording, photos, and biographical information detailing experience, honors, past adjudication results, festival ratings, etc. The deadline for band applications is January 15th of the year of the parade the band is applying to participate in, and bands are notified of their acceptance no later than February 15th of the same year. Marching bands are selected on the basis of overall quality, as well as geographical, ethnic and stylistic diversity. It is the annual goal of the parade organizers to have at least one band or unit represent each of the 50 states of the union.

The Nation's Capital offers unlimited excitement on July 4th in addition to the parade. A National Folklife Festival on the Mall features different cultures in the Americas and a variety of ethnic groups. That evening, parade participants are all part of the audience of the PBS Concert at the Capitol Building featuring the National Symphony Orchestra and one of the country's largest fireworks displays. There is no greater location displaying greater excitement on America's birthday than in our nation's capital!

Head out to Foggy Bottom or Federal Triangle metro stations. They put you as close to the fireworks as you can get, legally, to the coolest firework display you will ever see on July 4th. if that's not your cup of tea, check out the Capitol Fourth concert, located on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The concert begins at 8p.m.and features an all-star line up including award-winning musical artists such as:
Jimmy Smits
Steve Martin
Steep Canyon Rangers
Josh Groban
Mathew Morrison
Jordin Sparks
So go ahead and enjoy!

Yes you have the right to an opinion, but if you are going to form opinion you need to do them based on facts. Otherwise you are no better then those who go to a voting booth with no inclination on who they are voting for.

History lesson 101: Unpatriotic? Brief lesson: PAY ATTENTION, Marijuana was not illegal until the Marijuana Tax Act in 1937, before that it was the most used "drug" even more then AMERICAN TOBACCO, only to be considered unconstitutional by Leary vs. United States in 1967 (A SUPREME COURT RULING). It wouldn't become illegal again until 1970's Controlled Substances Act, which is costing tax payers roughly $50 billion dollars a year (WITH ONLY MARIJUANA USERS FEELING THE PRESSURE BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY DRUG THAT STAYS IN YOUR SYSTEM LONG ENOUGH TO DETECT WITH CURRENT TESTING METHODS). The laws cost you and me and everyone else $1 Billion Dollars per year for marijuana that is DUMB!

Prior to 1900 every ship's sails, ropes, sailers clothing, anything that was fabric were made from hemp. In 1916 the U.S. Department of Agriculture concluded that pulp collected from hemp, yes from cannabis plants, was of better quality than that of tree fibers. Also, 1 acre of hemp production out produces 4 acres of forests cultivation. In 1942 the U.S. Government strongly encouraged hemp cultivation to help with the war effort and they produced a video called "Hemp For Victory". PAY ATTENTION: Hemp, from Cannabis plants, was used by Jefferson when he drafted the declaration of independence!

Oh and as for you unpatriotic, the fact that you don't know these things is unpatriotic. People in other countries would love to have the education we have here and you talk about things of which you do not know and you make OPINION statements that do not make since based on facts!

Cannabis, is the genus of flower type plants. Plant a seed watch it grow and it will turn into a plant called Cannabis, which miraculously produces many things. Flowers (Marijuana), Seeds, Hemp (Plant Fibers).

Have you ever smoked cigarettes? DEATHS ASSOCIATED: MARIJUANA USE = 0. TOBACCO USE = 5.4 MILLION PER YEAR! Have you ever had a alcoholic drink? Because remember Prohibition they had to repeal it because of ORGANIZED CRIME, SOUND FAMILIAR (DRUG CARTELS/DEALERS) who praise the Controlled Substance Act!

It's not a matter of content, or relaxing, or even having a good time. People, like myself, enjoy marijuana in the same fashion a cigar connoisseur would enjoy a pricy cigar. There are different flavors, potencies, the effects are different based on its strain, Cannabis Indica or Sativa. The idea that marijuana is a "drug" is nothing more then a fabrication created through government propaganda. Movies in the 1930s would portray woman smoking marijuana and going crazy, jumping out of windows and becoming societal deviants. If you want to know the "real" truth of why it is illegal, do some scholarly research and compare and contrast it with Tobacco because its by the hands of their industry that it is classified schedule I under the Controlled Substance Act, Title II of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970. Go to this website, http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/30, and read over numbers 16 and 17, as well as the information pertaining to alcohol and tobacco, both publicly accepted. Furthermore, in 1988 our congress toiled with Marijuana Rescheduling, Docket #86-22. If you need more enticing, 2007 deaths associated with: Alcohol induced (23,199), Cannabis (0). Also, "compounds found in cannabis have been shown to kill numerous cancer types including: lung cancer [9], breast and prostate [10], leukemia and lymphoma [11], glioma [12], skin cancer [13], and pheochromocytoma [14]. This last sentence I found in the Harm Reduction Journal 2005, article titled Cannabis and Tobacco Smoke Are Not Equally Carcinogenic by Ph.D Robert Melamede, former Chairman of the Biology Department at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs although since retired.

You have your opinions and that is great, but learn the facts and then rethink your opinions. They might change or they may not, which is fine, but at least you'll know the facts for yourself. For me I was once anti-marijuana advocate until I tried it at the age of 19. I did not become crazily addicted, but simply began learning everything I could about it, as I continued to smoke of course. I started reading scholarly articles explaining all the medical research, and effects or the lack there of. I understand that smoking anything is bad, but at least I'm not smoking Tobacco. An industry that kills millions a year all over the world with no retribution. I'll leave you with this thought. After this happened and I began to research information, while continuing to smoke. It was the first time that I had begun to actually learn something that, with no prior knowledge, changed the way I viewed something. Which quite ironically became my addiction. I went from a C student in high school, to getting my Masters degree in, non-other kinesiology with straight A's.

I hope you were not serious about what you wrote. The Controlled Substance Act that makes marijuana illegal and, subsequently hard to find employment, the culprit for those who you speak of so fervently. Those that want to work--will work, those that don't--wont, but IT IS NOT the marijuana smoking that is keeping them from doing so, but their individual self-governance. You mentioned that those who smoke are mostly liberal, you could not be more wrong my friend. The demographic of those who enjoy smoking marijuana is about 50% and being a conservative myself can contest to that. By the way, liberal comes from the word libertarian, which is what Thomas Jefferson classified himself as. Did you know that he grew cannabis on his property? He did--and if my history serves correctly, wrote the constitution, which ironically gave you the right to voice your nonsense above here. Oh--George Washington grew marijuana as well, another prominent figure in American history. Your writing signifies a very disdain attitude towards others, you must be a Republican because historically that is how they treated, William Jennings Bryan liberals. If you don't understand that last bit--he was the founder of the liberals of whom you speak. Oh--those who smoke marijuana in my experience tend to perform better at their job because they do things in a more controlled, continuous manner. There is no need to rush and when you're high why bother--unless deadlines require it. You remember the story of the tortoise and the hare, it was the tortoise that wins. I believe you to be the later by your rush-full lack of an argument! You should stay away from the fireworks and read some journals discussing marijuana to educate yourself on how bad marijuana really is. Oh alright I'll tell you,--------sorry I was having to ponder this because I couldn't think of anything. I bet your the guy who wears the shirt with a pocket for your cigarettes, who smokes two packs a day, but simultaneously makes cracks at those who prefer better smelling aromas.
