Baseball Back In D.c. -- Nationals Could Surprise!

Baseball is back in D.C., baby! And starved fans of Washington can’t wait until the first pitch.

R.F.K. Stadium has undergone a multi-million dollar facelift for the arrival of the Washington Nationals as the D.C. area braces for professional hardball for the first time in 32 years.

The financial woes of the Montreal Expos turned into Washington’s gain as the Major League Baseball approved the move of the franchise late last year. It was the first MLB franchise shift since D.C. lost the second version of the Senators to Texas after the 1971 season.

I know a lot of people are predicting the Nationals to finish near the bottom of the standings, but with a rapid fan base, a new team attitude and the unpredictability of MLB from year to year, don’t be shocked if the Nationals become one of the surprise teams in 2005.

NL EAST PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH:

1. New York Mets

2. Washington Nationals

3. Atlanta Braves

4. Philadelphia Phillies
