  1. This is the best time of year to start to take off those extra pounds. It is several months before the holidays start adding pounds to us. It is also the time of year when the weather changes and makes it easier to get outside and walk, run, bicycle or whatever floats your boat. I just joined weight watchers and they have a really good plan. I'm not depriving myself of food, but I did cut out the soda's (100%). It is tough I have to admit. I think I stay alive because of the sugar and caffeine I consumed every day. I'm 45 now and it gets harder every year. Exercise has become a MUST DO in order to lose with any type of speed for me. I bought a pair of new running shoes and I'm starting to Walk/Run first. I work in Chantilly - does anyone know of a nice place to walk/hike in the area. I'd love to hook up with a few women with common goals to walk with on weekends. I live close to the Appalachian Trail, but I don't feel comfortable walking alone. If interested contact me at womanontarget@hotmail.com
  2. Has anyone read a new book lately that was so good that you went out to find another book by the same author? I go thru books like crazy in the wintertime and I'd like to find someone new and different to read.
  3. Has anyone hiked any interesting places in our area lately? Fall colors will be here before we know it. This is my favorite time of year and I'm looking for some suggestions on trails to hike or bicycle. Please respond to womanontarget@hotmail.com to begin a dialogue with me.
  4. Thanks for reprinting George Allen's words. My father told me about Allen's response, but I didn't actually get an opportunity to read his exact words. I say amen to his words and am thankful Virginia has a great senator like him to represent Virginia. I am so sick of the negative comments coming out of the mouths of so many of our political leaders mouths. They really should be ashamed of themselves, and I hope that the people they claim they represent, let them know exactly how they feel about their unpatriotic remarks. Come on - Claiming quatanamo is like Nazi Germany??? I really believe that Dick Durbin needs a history lesson. Did he really graduate from High School ?????? I'm sure I learned of the horrers of WWII from High School. At guatanamo they are given nourishment and are allowed proper medical treatment when sick. They have a place to sleep and are not crammed into every corner. They are not forced to work as slaves every day. I could go on, but it sickens me at the ignorance of Mr. Durban and others like him. As for George Allen - I hear a Presidential Candidate in his voice and someone who I would be honored to call our next Comander in Chief.
  5. I'm not sure how close you are looking for. If you are willing to drive a few hours - the best rafting is on the Gulley River - for experienced rafters. There are sections of class 3 to 5. The best time to go is in October when they release some of the dam water. The NEW RIVER is also close to the Gulley. Both of these are in West Virginia.
  6. I'd like to get a small group together and pick a hike in West Virginia for a day. That state is very beautiful. I live in the Shenandoah Valley. I thought that BLACKWATER FALLS would be a very nice area to hike. Anyone interested in joining me in September/October 2005 after things cool down a bit.
